Fitting An Fpv Intercooler

I've just bought an FPV intercooler.

What are the ramifications if I install it in my XR6T?

Do I need a retune or custom tune? Or will the ECU pick up the difference in airflow (if any) and compensate automatically.

Just plug it in and you should be right as the difference between the two is not that great.

You would need a retune to make use of the extra available killerwasps....but I don't think it'd be worth doing for just that alone.

can't see how a bigger 'cooler gives you extra killawasps, rather it stops the decline in killawasps after continued hard runs.

not the bigger part it's the better flow / less restriction that gives more power and the big size does as you said

Ba and BF phoons have the same cooler.. So no issues

BA and BF Phoons probably do have the same coolers BUT a stock BA/BF XR6T cooler is 50% smaller than a PHOON cooler. The only reason I fitted a BA Phoon cooler to my stock BF XR6T today was for that reason(50% larger) and the price was not too shabby either.

A bit of thought before starting out won't go astray for anyone doing this upgrade. I found a tread on this site relating to removal of the front bar/bumper in order to respray the intercooler..............very helpfull.

Note: you will need to drill 2 holes.(relocate the passenger side mounting bracket,you need the Phoon bracket)

you will need to plug the Phoon's "boost gauge sender unit" threaded hole(driver's side).

you can use the stock xr6 mounting brackets just flip the passenger side bracket up side down and drill one hole.

A more effecient intercooler will give lower outlet temps (and in turn more power) right from the get go.

The factory intercooler is a horrible thing and has bad outlet temps even when stone cold on a stock set up.
