I't also not uncommon to find mechanics taking the cars out without the manager's knowledge. This isn't isolated to Ford dealerships either, and being someone who's experienced first hand, catching dealership mechanics taking my car for joy rides, it's not too big an assumption to make. All said and done, the dealership in this case doesn't appear to be completly honest and upfront with what's going on. When that happens, the natral assumption is that they must be hiding something. In other words the code tells the cutting machine what pattern it has to cut.The security coding can be done by you as long as you've got both the original keys. As for my car being a smartlock car its a BF XR6 and I'm not sure if it is or not. bentles Member 121 Member For: 16y 8m 11d Gender: Male Location: melbourne Posted 19/09/09 08:33 PM Share Posted 19/09/09 08:33 PM there is a way to code without the IDS but its not very well known.also your car has an immobilizer called smartshield which lets the car start straight away with any key that works in the lock (this is just to make starting the car quicker) however it then checks the code of the transponder in the key to confirm its the same as the one programmed into the BEM. if it isnt the same it will turn the car off. that explains the starts then stalls straight away... because the keys arent coded to the vehicles BEM.
