Hey guys.. just want to ask those guys who have installed an aftermarket audio head unit. Is forking out $500 for a unit really make a HUGE difference in sound quality or should I save it on suspension. My car already has an Alpine amp with MB Quartz and a Hertz Sub box in it.

In my case the difference was HUGE!! (mainly to do with tuning, extra features, ipod control and mp3)

But it depends on how happy u are with your current system. I'd say just adding a headunit wouldnt affect sound quality too much, but you def wont be going backwards...

I can't live without mine now, I have ipod and usb capability and it's just too easy for me.

my head unit also acts as a dvd player through my factory screen so it's sort of a complete package now.

apparently, for sound quality itself, using a headunit for an aftermarket stereo like in your case does make a noticeable difference in sound quality.

however, I use the term 'apparently' very lightly, as you personally might not see any difference.

Mate - really depends what you are trying to achieve...

I all but had a new install done on the Phoon when I bought it - close to 10K worth of Focal gear (and some other stuff)... But no where was there a AM HU in the price - it was all to be run from the ICC.

If you use good line converters, have it installed by a good installer, and use good gear - the different will be little if done correctly.

Like most things the quality of the end result is only as good as the weakest link... in this case yes some may say the ICC - but if you have it done right from the start you will have a good basis/foundation...

If it is in an FG, I would suggest using an aftermarket source.

The standard item is a massive POS.
