September 6, 200323 yr #1 Ok guy's (and Gal's)The time has come to update my BA,SWMBO and I both prefer Manual but also would rather Phantom over Sillouette.Unfortunately the deal I am getting limits the choice to the above, What do you all think?Cheers, Bazza.
September 6, 200323 yr #2 Bazza. You're in the box seat my son!The Phantom auto would be the ideal pick.Firstly, the colour. One of the best in the pallette. Dark enough to look menacing but light enough to bring out the lines of the car.Secondly, the auto. Apart from ease of operation, the SSS function can be used to suit your mood. Being an auto also gives you consistency with any quarter mile times (if that's your go) and the auto can be driven with as much control as a manual. Finally, RESALE!!! The big important factor. An auto is a much more popular prospect for any potential resale due to a potential buyer who may have a handbrake that can't drive a manual, someone may live in the city and doesn't fancy changing gears all the time or someone may like the convenience of the auto which can maximise the 500 nM under the hood.Silhouette is a great colour. I'm glad manufacturers have the kahoonas to build black cars but they are a pain to keep clean.
September 6, 200323 yr #3 I'm with plonky .... but have gone the black 8ter with left arm invovlement .... don't know why ... we have a phantum and black ...it is a tough choice good luck mate .... if you are on sealed roads go the black
September 6, 200323 yr #5 Geex Baz, your current car is barely run-in yet! Go the Phantom and then come around and take me for a drive. We will have to find a nice quiet back road somewhere and find out which car is quicker. Are you taking it straight to Herrods for extractors and exhaust? Are you going to put the 19s on the XR? Personally, I wouldn't, but it's your car so you can do what you want..
September 6, 200323 yr #6 I say go the manual - with an engine like that you can prety much just leave it in any gear you like and the torque will be enough to make it go Plus it feels great, more involving to drive and more power gets to the wheels. As for resale a manual can often fetch a higher price - reason is because they tend to be in short supply on the second hand market. The new cars in this price range tend to be brought under lease by people who are older and do a fair few k's - so they prefer a auto. A few years down the track though the buyer for these used cars tends to be someone a bit younger who will be using the car mainly for personal use - maybe as a weekend car or whatever - these people often prefer a manual.
September 6, 200323 yr #7 I say go the manual silhouette. I prefer silhouette over phantom. And I've never read anything bad about the XR8 manual box, so if you want a manual there's no reason not to get one.
September 6, 200323 yr #8 balck and manual! Forget about the next owner, think instead about the fun you'll have with all that go and the extra control a manual affords. I've never seen a black XR8 - would be serious rubber neck material..............
September 6, 200323 yr #9 Hi Baz,Its gotta be the manual V8 purely for the fun factor. Plonky is right, in my experience you will have more buyers when selling an auto, and l would prefer Phantom over Black. But for me, neither of these factors are enough for me to live happily with an auto.

But, I've said it once and I'll say it again, if your into body building and like a little arm exercise or just want to look like Arnie in a T shirt go the dark colours. They are a pain to keep clean and shiny.
