Powerchip And The Xr6 Turbo

That interview does powerchip absolutely no favours..

No wonder at the start it say "A man who very strongly defends his company's products against criticism - but will not allow any magazine to do a story on Powerchip's chip development or programming procedures"

It is like asking an accountant how to build a car, or a Janitor how to develop a warhead.

After reading that I think I will be happy keeping my black beast in its Natural Ford State. I have a bit more faith in the engineers there. The fact that the chip has to be undetectable scares me. Obviously car manufacturers have an issue with it as well.

Sorry guys but am saying no to the plastic surgery.

Personally, I would prefer to have a chip that I can physically take out when I go to get the car serviced etc.

I'm always dubious when someone says to me "this is undetectable" or "this is foolproof".

Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I'm naturally sceptical of anyone that promises the world.

Myself, I'm going to wait and see what time and experience brings to the party.

The car is just too new to have everything sussed out.

I'm more interested to see what the updated fuel, ignition and boost maps looks like on the dyno once everyone has come out with their chip/upgrade. After talking to a friend at Garrett, I suspect there is more than electronic stops to increased power.

He simply referred to the relationship between the turbine wheel and housing, in reference to increased boost and boost spikes.

He was talking purely technical, as he’s from Garrett US and has only read the technical data and observation made by Garrett. He has never seen it in operation!

What I’d give for compressor maps for the 723157 GT40!

:D I installed a powerchip in my EFII XR6 and the only problems I ever experienced were bad connections. I had to take the chip out and clean the connectors and re-install it every now and then.

The increased power and drivability was great. Testament to this is that one day when it played up I took it out and thought I'd leave it out until I got home to clean it and re-install. I lasted about 2 minutes and pulled over and put it back in!

I found the chip and a cloth air filter made a significant difference. Drove it for about 100,000 k's and had no warranty or other issues. I drove it on the track a fair bit at clubsport days and it beat standard 185KW HSV's in all circumstances. Really peed them off!

I would certainly be one of the first in line for one for my new XR6T. (As soon as it's delivered )

I dont know from reading the review I would much rather go with a company like Herrod's at least they know what they are doing and have close connections with Ford. It will be very interesting to see what they come up.

Have Powerchip got a commercially released chip on the market? Anyone tried one?
