So yeah, not sure if this is allowed because I guess it's kind of like advertising myself... but I'm out of a job as of the end of the week which blows so I thought it was worth a stab in the dark.

The fabled "Global Economic Crisis", a severe lack of incoming work and a few doses of plain old bad luck have forced the small media company I work for to close it's doors for a while (not technically going bust but it will be a company with no employees, at least for a while... lol).

There was only me and 1 other guy left after the other 5-6 other people gradually got moved on since the start of the year and we're both over and out after Friday.

Anyway, I'm not making a thread to sook about it, just wanted to put it out there that if anyone knows of a business (in Melb) that is looking for someone to fill a video editing or similar post-production / multimedia role, could you please let me know. lol

Otherwise I'm gonna have to become a concreter's labourer and get creative with Centrelink and the ATO to make sure the mortgage gets paid.. Not that there's anything wrong with trade work at all, my old man is a chippy, I'm just not built for it lol. BUT if all else fails that's where I'll be.

Anyway, I've got my BA (Hons) in Film Making (Digital Film) and have had 3 years experience working in the industry. The company I was with had two successful shows (boating/motoring related) aired on the 9 Network for 6 consecutive seasons each, along with a variety of one-offs, docos and event coverage programs (Southern 80, Dutton Rally, Classic Adelaide, etc). We also provided marketing and promotion services like websites, TV commercials, print media, etc.

I'm proficient in Final Cut Studio, Adobe Premiere, pretty much all the Adobe CS4 products (inc Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc), can correctly setup and operate any DV/HDV cameras, and I can desgin/build websites (mostly self taught but my code is clean and robust, mainly just CSS/HTML and some flash, not very experienced with JS, etc. hence why I haven't applied for any of the eleventy billion web design jobs goin' around).

I'm not afraid of hard work, enjoy a laugh where appropriate, am polite and comfortable dealing with clients if need be.

Any help or leads would be much appreciated, although I won't be holding my breath... It's so quiet in Melbourne at the moment in this biz.

Bad luck mate, but It's good that you keep being positive & pro-active about it.

I farking hate hearing about people getting laid-off, especially when it happens at such short notice.

And Kael, you're right, I'm trying to look at it as a blessing in disguise.

More experience, possibly better pay (although I'd settle for just enough to get by), new people, etc.

I actually applied for a job cutting porno, which is offering more $$ than I'm on at the moment so if that comes off, it'd definitely be a silver lining. They do have A LOT of applications though surprise surprise hehe.
