Tyres Setting You Back?

hey all

I recently well burnout my two rear tyres and went out yesterday to get a quote on new tyres.

I have 2x 17 inch raceline deep dish rims, which fit a fairly large 275/30/19 tyre.

I was shocked to see the pricing of tyres when the averga price of $550 per tyre came into my eyes. (been a young bloke this is a fair bit of cash for tyres) Anyways (won't mention companies names nor brands due to been a good bloke on the moderating side

But I went around to a couple of shops and the same tyre was priced in 3 very different regions!

$550 the first place

$456 the second

$388 the third.

Why is it shops are not regular on their pricing?

Just curious to find out that's all

How did you fit a 19" tyre onto a 17" rim?

But yea, pricing does vary, in some cases over $150

I bought 2 * 275/30/19 Nexen tyres to fit my 9.5"wide rears, and they were $275 each.

I pay $250 each for 275x30x20 delivered to my door.

I always ring Tempe Tyres first 9573 1010 because they are always the cheapest. Then I ring a few of the tire shops around me and ask for a price. when they give me there price I tell them the price I have and ask them how close they can get to that, generally atleast one shop will get close enough ($10-20 per tyre) for me not to go to tempe (because they are a pack of bull sh*tting assholes)

Its like this with most goods. You need to shop around. And just because a shop has the price cheap one time, it doesnt mean it will be cheap the next. (although there are some shops who are consistantly well priced).

I always shop around regardless. Yesterday had to buy a instant hot water system. Price ranged $410 to $652. You have to remember the employee at the counter of a large business couldn't care less what price is on the computer, that is the only price they will quote, whereas a smaller business where the owner is around you have a higher chance of getting a good price.

With Harvey Norman I consistently get a much better price at the Osborne Park franchise in Perth. Saved heaps for paying cash but at the other stores the discount was pathetic.

I got a pair of 245/40/18 toyo proxe4s for $260/tyre back in february from the tyre factory in dandenong. Called them up last week to get another pair and they went up to $295!! so ended up with nexen n6000s for $210/tyre.

just ordered 2 federal 595RS to fit stock rims @ $200 each. Thought I did pretty well

I dont shop locally anymore after trying to do the right thing for the last year when buying tyres for the T. I was quoted $500 at home or $380 delivered from brissy for a set of federal 595rs-r 18 275's. I'll be shopping around from now on that's for sure.

Yeh ended up going with the $280 priced ones I found later today.

just annoying having to shop around all over town for the best deals!

sure you didnt buy 19" tyres for 17" rims?

But lots of things can affect price. Discounts from manufactures (buy in bulk, special deals), lower profit margins but higher turnover, different areas with different overhead costs etc etc

Cheaper isnt always better but does pay to shop around
