Bf2 Engine Light

Featured Replies

I started the car last night and the engine light didnt go out. started and idled like normal. I tried turning off and on a few times but it still stayed on.

drove it home and car is running like normal but with the light on.

so I disconnected the battery over night to clear it and see if it lights up again. after the first start and a 20 min drive no light.

let the car rest for a few hours and tried again. the light came on just after I turned the key but still running like normal.

I know it just an emission light so im guessing its one of the o2 sensors or the cat. is there anything else it could be?

car has no mods and hasnt been tuned and is under warrenty so ill be taking to ford when I get the chance during the week.

just after other peoples thoughts on this.

oh and the car has never been serviced at ford. I do most of the work my self. I just done the manifold bolts 2 weeks ago and cleaned the TB.

  • these ECUs are pretty powerful. if you are in real strife it will go it limp mode or torque reduction......and you will know about it.

Could be something to do with your cat, but being stock its hard to point the finger at something in particular. Get it plugged in to a diagnostic machine and see what the fault code is.

What gives you the impression it's 'just an emission light'?

It could be a number of things. As Senna has said, get it plugged in and checked out.

Because that's what it said in the manual. something along the lines of the car not running to the right emissions.

Anyway cars booked in for thursday. See what they say.

I had the same problem once to same car as you saw the light checked the manual something to do with the emiisions didn't think much of it it got the better of me and took it to my tuner needless to say had nothing at all to do with the 02 sensor.

Had the exact same problem, ie. 100% stock no mods, light came on after a "software upgrade" at the ford service dept while getting an unrelated noise checked out. 4 visits later and 2 x etc warnings later, I couldnt get an answer. It eventually fixed itself. What Im trying to say (not intentionally trying to scare you) is that if its an intermittant problem you will probably get the same response I got from 2 seperate dealerships,"if it doesnt happen infront of us while its here we cant do anything about it"

Have you given it a good hard run??

its the MIL light, which is emission system related.....BF's have them and they can be a PITA. Nothing too serious, however they are annoying. Get Ford to run diagnostics and reset.

Ok. My bad. After consulting the owners manual (FG XR6T) this is what is listed.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL )

The MIL will illuminate for 3 seconds after turning the ignition on. If the MIL does not illuminate have the system checked by an Authorised Ford Dealer as soon as possible. If the MIL is constantly illuminated when driving:-

This indicates the vehicle is no longer operating within the emission regulations and the vehicle should be taken to the nearest Authorised Ford Dealer for inspection or repair.

If the MIL flashes at a rate of approximately one flash per second when driving:-

This indicates a fault has developed that will damage the catalytic convertor. Continued use when the MIL is flashing will cause damage to the emissions system. Note that there is no message centre warning for MIL. Contact your local Authorised Ford Dealer for advice.

Not sure if it's the same for a BF, but it wouldn't be far off.
