I was"nt going to bring my total disgust for the greenies into this but now ya mention bob brown ,I have lost all and any respect for that man after coming on tv and saying that to suppoet his crap , when in reality it's the fault of the damn greenies that the bush get's to this state where you don't have a hope in hell of stopping a fire because of their green policies that restrict burning of nat. parks etc ,and prevent people from clearing land around their property

You cant really say enough for the Volunteers and the fanbloodytastic jobs they do. :roflmbo:

Even now the fires are under control they almost have an even worse job of going through the tidy up stages.

This is probably gunna come out wrong, but it really pissed me off last night on 9 news when they found the missing ex channel 9 news reader and his wife at their burnt home and had a "special" 20 minute segment on them specifically...

I just felt that fair enough theyve lost an ex- colegue and what-not but hes no different to the other 104 people killed so far (heard today the police are expecting upto 170 victims), they all had loving families and children and friends that will be missed just as much as him.

The time could have been better spent warning watchers where the fire was heading, what the Helpline phone numbers are, Donation hotlines and such.

RIP to the news reader and everyone else who's lost more than we can comprehend, but I wasnt real pleased with the Channel 9 "Special Broadcast".

Brian Naylor wasnt just any old news reader Troughy, he is a long standing highly respected man. This is the first I've heard of his passing and I'm sorry I missed the tribute.

Ch9 lost a close mate and they pay tribute to him the best way they know how and all you can do is complain about it....

may your news be good news and goodnight.

Was listening to the radio this morning - one listen said her hubby is a paid firey and due to some sort of union rules or something like that (don't quote me), but due to some rule he can only do X amount of overtime in a given week.

He's already done it so he has to go home and sit on his clacker until Wednesday, completely unable to help. Twiddling his thumbs. The volunteers aren't subject to any such 'limits' however.

Another listener also rang up and said her son is a volunteer and his boss threatened to sack him if he didn't go to work today! Fair suck of the sauce bottle I say, that's pretty ordinary behaviour in anyone's book.

I really dont see what is special about watching lives destroyed.

Agreed. It infuriates me when you see them just looking for stories, Asking people what they have lost to make them upset and cry on Camera. Its just terrible.

Channel 9 are holding a special telethon at 8:30 on Thursday night called 'Australia united' or similar.. Kudos goes to the real heroes out there as ratter has said, and to all the australians out there providing help through donations etc. This is truly a time where the 'Aussie Spirit' has been shown throughout the country to unite as one and help out those who have lost everything. It makes you proud to call yourself Australian.

couldn't agree more. why is he more important the the other people who died? sure he's was a respect newsreader etc etc, but that was his job. no different then some bloke who was a plumber and got killed. one guy is just one guy
