Amazing!yes but if these experiments contribute to the proving of the grand unified quantum theory etc then it will open the doors to a whole lotta new technology covering everything from quantum computing, nanotech and possibly one day FTL(faster than light) travel !!Nang has hit the nail on the head - its not all about the immediate results, but all going well can you imagine what this could lead to in another 50 years (Only 50 or so years ago where we dreaming about putting people on the moon). Imagine being able to travel faster than the speed of light, its a long shot but who knows. Its all about this Grand Unified Quantum Theory which no one has been able to crack yet due to the unknowns of gravity... Meaning, if we do crack gravity we should be able to nail down a reason as to why our universe exists and how it came about. It might initially solve just a mystery but once they get into it... this could a whole new ball game by splitting just one atom we would generate some ridiculous amount of energy... new source of power once they figure how to harness all that energy...Its a good idea and something iv thought about, but the sheer amount of energy to actually make any energy (as well as being able to contain it safely) would probably rule it out I would think... But again - who knows what we will be able to do in another 50 years...If any of you are genuinely interested in physics or science relating to space and the like, I strongly recommend you read 'A Brief History of Time' by Steven Hawkins... Iv not completely finished reading it myself - even though its supposed to be easy to understand in Layman terms, it can be difficult to read and you can get lost in the technical terminology, but you will then begin to realise what the results of this experiment may be able to do for us in future. It will also give you a better idea of many theories, and how far we have come with our knowledge of the universe in such a short time. Ill give you a good quote (fairly long so iv shortened it) from the book itself that has a direct relevance to this and why this experiment should happen."The discovery of a complete unified theory may not aid the survival of our species. It may not even affect our lifestyle. But ever since the dawn of human civilisation, people have not been content to see the events as unconnected or inexplicable. They have craved an understanding of the underlying order in the world. Today we still yearn to know why we are here and where we came from. Humanity's deepest desire for knowledge is justification enough for our continuing quest and our goal is no less than a complete description of the universe we live in". So... we're all going to die today. Tab before we die, I wanted to let you know how much I love you and that our time together has been special, even with the constant harassment by your ex, Senna.
