yeh mine usually sits just under half. I have installed a blitz turbotimer/boost gauge.

It automatically calculates how long the car should stay on after the engine has been shut off. Normal driving it calculates about 10 seconds, when its had a hard drive up to a minute or longer.

Only downside is u cant lock the doors while the car is still running

Which gauge are you guys talking about?, do you mean the in dash water temp? A turbo timer isnt going to help the water temp :spoton:

as the title says, will I be needing one? does anyone else have one and are they a good idea?

I know the boost we run isn't high compared to jap cars but do the turbo's still need to cool or wind down or whatever?

cheers

If you have the habit of driving hard a lot, and dont let the car idle (or drive slowly/normally for a minute or two before stopping the engine) then it wouldnt hurt to get one.

Ford tend to make their cars suitable for "normal use". I know the way I drive isnt normal, which is why I usually either drive with no boost the last few hunder metres or else let it idle for a minute or so once I stop.

You only have to lift the bonnet one evening after a spirited drive to know there is NO WAY a passive cooling system (thermo syphon) which suppsedly takes uses gravity and heat after stopping the engine wouldnt have a chance in hell to properly cool a red hot turbo with the engine off well enough to prevent oil caking etc.

I dont care what people say - there is no way it would do.

If you plan on keeping the car a fair while (say 4 years +) and you drive hard and arent patient enough to idle for a minute once you stop, it is not a bad idea to use one.

But if you drive normally, I would say forget about it. If you do hapen to hit it just prior to stopping, then let it idle just for a minute or so prior to killing the engine, to at least let the heat start to reduce.
