Or is it just my imagination! Lol Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/45542-bf2-trade-vs-private-sale/page/2/#findComment-676295 Share on other sites

I sold my Forester to upgrade to a BFII Turbo sedan! Seriously, the Forester is a bag of spanners compared to the Falcon. Here's some quick & simple comparos:Forester is SMALL. The luggage capacity is quoted as 450 litres, but that's from the floor to the ROOF! The Falcon boot is MUCH bigger - just ask my wife and the two kids with their prams.XT fuel economy won't be that much better than the Falcon turboBuy price is ridiculously high for what you getRoad and wind noise much worse in the ForesterThat said, there are some good things about the Subarus. They're extremely reliable, and have a crazy resale value (64% after 3 years) - 10% more than an XR6 turbo. Don't worry mate, the Warren Family aren't doing it too tough, and probably never will! Not that the workers will ever see extra dollars, but it does create a better workplace. markxr6t Member 476 Member For: 20y 6m 26d Location: Perth WA Posted 15/05/08 12:36 PM Share Posted 15/05/08 12:36 PM I agree with kaldek. I had a Forester X and was deciding whether to upgrade to either a Forester XT or an XR6T. I'm now on my second XR6T......Fuel economy won't differ much but you'll really notice the lack of rear seat width (the Ford will easily fit 3 baby seats, the Subaru won't) and rear seat legroom. On a trip the XR6T is roomier and more relaxed (quicker too!)I miss the build quality and mild off-road ability of the Subie but the XR6T makes me smile every time I drive it. So while the Subaru is a satisfying car to own, the XR6T is a fun (and very practical) car to own. Ridiculously cheap to mod, too......My 2c..... XR6T007 Member 6 Member For: 17y 7m 17d Gender: Male Posted 15/05/08 10:41 PM Share Posted 15/05/08 10:41 PM I took my '05 BA mkII Turbo to a FORD dealer to get valued 18 months after I bought it. It had 16,000kms on the clock, 6sp manual, not a scratch and had some factory options. They offered me $23,000 for it as a trade in. If I was standing 1m closer to that salesman the only thing he would be selling with wheels would be wheelchairs. I understand it's a business...but that was criminal.Take the time and sell it privately!!! And sticking with Ford you may find you can save money. use the internet, e-mail deals and see who bites. On the Cars, I have bought sold and traded in over 15 cars over the last 12yrs (both here and OS) and with time I have found the Trade in the way to go. Selling privately always took alot longer and was always harder to get the money I wanted for the car. Considering just how many used cars are on the market now selling cars privately is very very hard work. And selling a Falcon privately right now IMHO would be harder than trading it.I've had Foresters XT and X, I sold the XT when I went OS privately and did OK, then when I got back I bought another (an X), and I sold the X Forester (privately-and lost money on it) to upgrade to a BF XR6, then traded the XR6 on a BFMKII XR6T (I Bought the XR6 for $27k, put alot of K's on it in 6months, and got 24k Trade in and a new BFMKIIT for $43k OTR), then Traded The T to an F6RSpec with unbeleivable deals all along the way, they gave $15k in Factory rebates on my T with 50,000kms on the clock and it was only 12 months old. Each trade I got payout figures that were better or equal to my finance figures. These last trades came in the space of 2yrs too, and each time I came out in front. And found that as I stuck with Ford, they used Ford Credit leverage and Ford rebates to get me from car to car with ease. (see my profile with my first post -bit lengthy but I go through these trades in detail). I did all these deals over the phone/internet - and just turned up to sign the paperwork. And I went from Forester Fanatic to Falcon nut - based on space, performance, fuel economy (the ZF gives unbelievable economy on hwy trips), and fun - The T and F6 leave the XT Forester in it's dust for driveability and fun. The Transmission options in the Forester just didn't give me the flexibility, fuel efficiency and performace of the ZF. And the Forester was Just too small for us, (don't forget you can only stack the boot up to the back of the seats). The Ford just has so much more space and I found it just more fun to drive. I found with Traction control, and the sharper handling of the Xr6T it handled better in wet and dry than the forester (rolled alot), and the R-Spec, well it's just a league ahead of both - in twisty roads for safety and performance I would rather be in the Typhoon that a Forester any day. Unless you are doing serious back track driving every day on difficult terrain and 4WD is critical - The XR6T or F6 out performs the XT Forester in every way on bitumen and most dirt roads - Traction control and DSC give you full control. Remember oversteer is easier to control than understeer. But, It took really hunting around to find that one dealer - who wants the deal more than I did. It however took less time than trying to sell any of my other cars privately.Consider trading your T on a BFMKII Typhoon for cheap deals(RSpec for the handling or basic Typhoon for an even cheaper deal) or a new FG - set your finance parameters and dont budge from them, then find a dealer (even look interstate) who is desparate to move a car - and put a couple up against each other - the one that really needs to make a deal will do it.And they'll use Ford rebates and Credit affiliations (if you're financing) to make up the the gaps - better it comes out of their pockets than yours. Remember, Ford have had very bad salesfor Falcon over the last couple of years, and this year looks even worse for them - so they are very motivated to sell cars.Hope this helps.Apologies for the long post... ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 3m 11d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 16/05/08 12:44 AM Share Posted 16/05/08 12:44 AM I think it is wrong to say that all car salesmen are criminals.Firstly they are in business to make money and secondly they are in sales. It is their right to lowball you. You do not have to accept their offer or be violent with them just because they have made you a low offer. There is always room to negotiate or find another sales person. If you do your homework and know the value of the car you are trading and the value of the car you are buying, then you have the knowladge to make a deal work for you. I've been dealing with several in the last few days and there are some wankers but there are quite a few that come across as decent blokes and they will be the ones that will get my business. Provided they end on the right dollars.
