Whats Dsc?

Hey everybody, thanks for the input on the debung issues, just bought a new house with a larger garage so will be onto that soon. One other question, whats DSC and is it affected if I put different wheels and tyres on my TTG? Have seen a couple around Brisbane that have 20" rims with 275 x 45 tyres ( I think) looks real impressive.....especially when you park beside one and you're still wearing the razor blades!.....cheers for the info.

Dynamic Stability Control applies brakes to a certain rotor(s) to help control the car's path. Helps with skidding and things of the like. The only thing you need to be worried about would be the quality of the tyres.

Rims won't effect this mate. Go nuts!

WRONG! partially... Sorry mate, but from a safety point of view, I have to stress that different size wheels on Territories can effect the way stability control works.

The DSC is calibrated to the size of the wheel and more importantly the rolling diameter of the wheel/tyre combo. It uses the ABS sensors, a G sensor and a wheel position sensor to recognise where there car is actually going in relation to where the driver is telling it to go. Because it uses not only the brakes but it also controls the torque output from the engine to the wheels, if the rolling diameter is changed the DSC will not work to its full potential and could be the difference between you being able to brake and drive around a hazard and not.

I know that is a long winded reply, but in short, you can change the wheels as long as the rolling diameter stays the same (there is a small margin) and I have to admit the Terrys look awesome with 20's

I actually started typing about the sensors however I have no idea where they are and so stopped typing it coz I thought you'd know.

I didn't comment on rolling diameter because I thought a wheel shop would fit a lower profile tyre to a larger rim size to retain as much of the factory RD as possible if they knew DSC was fitted...?

It sounds like it must be in your Territory sales speil so you obviously know it back to front!

lol, you'd be surprised what wheel shops "forget" when they sell a mega dollar set of rims and tyres!

We have to know it because when the territories first came out we put wheels on them and it came back and bit us in the arse

It would be an interesting point if you bought aftermarket rims and the vehicle was involved in a fatal rollover accident.

I would bet there would be liabilities to the wheel place who should know that changing the wheels will affect the calibration of the DSC.

Suspension, brakes and wheels will all affect the operation of DSC.

funny you mention that ZAP, we had a customer who bought a territory ghia from us, went and got some 22's and two months later one of the wheels fell off! I mentioned this in another thread, the customer is taking the shop to court

no, DSC incorporates traction control also, but will reign the car in while power-understeering by braking the applicable inside rear brake and reducing torque output. Similar situation with over-steer too
