February 6, 200818 yr #1 Well as the title says gotta get new rims now as one of mine kinda got a bit scratched.">Going to work last night in the pelting rain (good old tassie weather) I had only just left home and was going around a looping off ramp to the highway. I could see the water just rolling across the road so was only doin maybe 50 ish. Got on to the highway slip lane and started to accelerate when woop there she goes one big aqua plane across one lane tried to straighten it up but swung the other way straight in to a curb. Stopped down the road to check if I still had a full rim or not, which I did. Got back in the ute said a little prayer and steadaly went on my way. Turned all noise making devices off and listened all 50Ks to work for any noises coming from the back end. Seems ok drives normal and no noise just a scratched rim and a pissed of driver. Just glad that there was no one else coming along the highway at the time as theere is a lot of log trucks travelling that road and people coming home from work coulda been a lot worse.Glen
February 6, 200818 yr #2 Glen,Sorry to hear, al least you are okay (better than your rim at least).Did you have your traction control off, normally it will stop these kinds of antics before they start.
February 7, 200818 yr #4 Holy jebus, very lucky mate. If it makes you feel any better, that's probably the best case of gutter rash over a complete rim I've ever seen, well done
February 7, 200818 yr #5 F#ck. God you must be pissed! Sorry to hear bud! and those rims aren't cheap. Mine got replaced under insurance a few months ago. It cost $1800.Dorko
February 7, 200818 yr #6 You did such a good kob on that rim it almost looks like it should be like that.Sorry to hear though. You are lucky no-one was coming the other way.So tell us. T/C on of off???
February 7, 200818 yr #7 With winter coming up I would wait until after winter so the same thing doesnt happen to your new rims.RegardsTUFXRT6
February 7, 200818 yr #8 HAHA maximus is right, it looks like your rim has a brushed finish style to it, keep rotating them and hit th same kerb untill they all look like that!all seriousness, at least you didn't slam out your axle any anything expensive!!
February 7, 200818 yr #9 Author That was the first thing that went through my mind as I hit the gutter Ah sh*t here goes an axle. T/C was on but I don't think it was much help in this case, Not to sure about the T/C as I have had the wheels spinning in first second and third in the wet before and not a hint of traction control. But ohwell no use crying over scratched rims. Going to look at some wheels this arvo after I have a bit of a sleep. 4 days off now and no rain forcast for the weekend whichis a good thing cause we have got the powercruise on here this weekend and I might just have to go.Glen
February 8, 200818 yr #10 traction control doesn't really help in an aquaplane situation, if there is no grip at all, it doesn't matter if the wheels are spinning or not as the car is sliding on top of waterSo what kind of rims are you going for???
