Coding New Keys

When my wife and I picked up the new (s/h) car it only came with one key.

I am led to believe you need 2 original keys to program a new one.

is this correct?

What is the general price of gettting a new key and cut and programmed?

no, you just need two keys - one coded, and a blank one - expect to pay around 250 for a new one cut and coded, or there abouts

senna_T is right.You only need to buy an additional key.During the programing procedure you actually erase all keys trained to your vehicle then train your 2 keys to it.Its actually a good idea if you purchased the car second hand to have this done as if you only got one key with the car then that means the previous owner still has the other one and could track you down and steal your car.Never heard of this happening but it is possible. By carrying out a key retrain you actually erase any other keys trained to your car. The car itself does actually need to have 2 keys trained to it to run though. The key itself is about $120 plus cutting and your dealer takes about 15-30 minute to train them with thier PDS/IDS.

I recently did the same, and had it all done by a local locksmith down the road who sold the key, cut it and was able to reprogram it, cost me half of what Ford would have charged. It pays you to shop around!

would be interesting for the old owner to try and take it what with the new alarm fitted complete with screamer!!!

Also with the screamer, is that one of the real high pitch speakers/sirens inside the cabin? that's an awesome idea

Yeah, Mounted under dash so if he can get through the pain of the screamer, find it and rip it out, then figure out the code for the alarm, all without directing attention to himself well then he would almost deserve the car. Almost as I would still break both his legs if I caught him.

My brother had one fitted to his car many years ago (mega $ stereo) Once ran 129db from memory in a comp. Found out the screamer was MUCH louder.

BA models yes.BF models impossible.Your resident locksmith doesn't have access to the online coding information required to do these.

Well, rang Independant locksmith at Nth Parramatta, doesn't do em, can't do em.

There goes that idea.

Can anyone shed some light on who does do them other than Ford?
