I'm surprised they can get away with putting a big hole in the rear housing of the turbo!

If it's stupid and it works, well, it aint stupid!

Yeah, putting the gate right off the exhaust housing is considered the best location.

As Dan said, the VL boys have been doing it for years so its a proven method

the reason it works so well is due to the fact that the wastegate is fed equally from all cylinders.

especially on custom turbo manifolds, the ability to get an equal flow from all cylinders into the wastegate pipe is much harder when its mounted to the manifold than when its mounted to exhaust housing.

physically its harder for some cylinders to reach the wastegate pipe than other cylinders, and then there is the issue of flow direction.

at best you can generally get a 90 degree angle from the collector when the wastegate is mounted to the manifold.

when its mounted to the turbine housing its possible to achieve as little as a 5degree angle such as I did on my own,any many of my customers setups and it works an absolute charm.

nice! is that the final position of the wastegate? Are you going to vent to atmosphere - ala screamer? - or will you plumb it back up to the dump?

Here is a nice setup....that will be making an appearance soon!

:stupid:

About time Phill.

9 seconds here we come!

Your exhaust plumbing will be interesting; there is not a lot of room there when you have a big dump pipe (as you will need), and try to merge it with the large external wastegate pipe... not to mention heat for the high mount.
