Valve Springs?

Featured Replies

just wondering,

how could I tell if my valve springs are on there way out, ive found my car idles and runs just a little bit rough, now I might just be being picky, because its not overly bad, but its just seems that way..

is there a certain way to tell if the valve springs are buggered or could there be something more sinister wrong? after reading boost69's post on his conrod going through the block, im like really paranoid about every little sound and rattle that the motor makes lol

valve springs are still stock, and ive been told by last place that serviced it that they are probably why its running bad, because they arent liking the extra power its got.

any help would be appreciated..

thanks guys..

could be a number of things.

one way of telling if the valve springs are not coping is givin a car a hard time bootin it around then come to a complete stop and if the car start to studder around side 2 side you know that a sign.

also pushing the car over 5500RPM do you get valve float???

That suggestion could be an expensive test if all doesn't go well.

Under what conditions does this idle problem occur?

Pete,

Does it happen after you give it a hard time or all the time?

If it happens all the time I would say its something else. At 241 you obviously have either a generic tune or a custom in which case you probably want to take it to a tuner.

Its probably not a good idea to take it above 5500rpm if you do have a major problem.

hey guys thanks for the quick reply's

it happens more when I give it a bit ive noticed. like tonight I did that boost solenoid thing with the WD40, and was giving it a bit, and when I stopped at the shops and let it idle, the revs would drop now and then like a fair bit to the point of almost stalling for about a second then go back to normal.

what is valve float UNVEME???

I did take it to the tuner and they said it was the valve springs that they were too soft, but I always like consulting u guys..

I dont ever get it above 5500 except once the other day when I put it back to 2nd instead of into 4th lol I was really really tired lol... I think the rev meter went all the way around a couple of times lol....

lol and just so ya's know the problem was happening well before I accidently hit 2nd instead of 4th. so it wasnt that causing it lol

im so bad at manuals, my xr6t is the first manual ive driven..

first day having it I stalled like 100 times lol

Another thing you can try is to spray some carby cleaner in the inside of the Throttle body the TPS can get dirty and lead to idle problems.

yeah I cleaned the throttle body on my last car and it made a big difference, mind you though I did drive around with that with no air filter what so ever, good old dunnydore lol

is it worth gettin the valvespring done anyway?
