October 25, 200718 yr #1 in england they have clubs where they hire a runway and do top speed runs.I was thinking we could do the same.please express your interest and ideas.
October 25, 200718 yr #2 99% of airfields in Aus are federal land and are covered by the federal anti terrism and security laws. Unfortunatly the logisitcs of this type of event (ie security clearances and insurance for spectators and drivers) mean it would be very expensive to get off the ground.I used to be involved with a regional drag racing event that was held on the airport runway and it got harder and harder each year post sept 11 to get it too happen
October 25, 200718 yr #3 Author bugger... well you seem pretty in the know about this, could you find out what exactly is needed?
October 25, 200718 yr #4 Great idea Fordgirl, but after reading what hiddeous just said, unless you can find an airfield that isn't owned by the government I really doubt it will get off the ground, unless someone can offer a suggestion. Perhaps a salt flat in SA, someone has to have a big enough private road around here. Edited October 25, 200718 yr by Fatsex
October 25, 200718 yr #5 Umm no. Im sure if you where interested in finding out you could do the leg work...?
October 25, 200718 yr #6 Author I don't mind doing the work, but to be honest I have no idea where to start...suggests?
October 25, 200718 yr #7 I don't mind doing the work, but to be honest I have no idea where to start...suggests?Do you have an airport in mind? ring them and ask who admisinters them. Talk to the administrators and go from there.
October 25, 200718 yr #8 Try Mangalore airport, bout the only one you have bucklies chance with. Just remember the insurance hassle and public liabilty, ie thinkng like an airport, I dont want a whole lot of juvenille revheads wanmting to speed on my land and be sued.Scotty
October 25, 200718 yr #9 Well it would be an event open to the forum only and would obviously need to be organised properly so therefore weeding out the little sick *beep* from turning up to cut laps and do burnouts, leave that for Dragtag. Would there be any interstate interest in this event at all?
October 25, 200718 yr #10 Not from me, I have been lucky enough to run an EL XR8 and EL XR6 in Darwin prior to 130km/h imposed speed limits.Personnally as much as I love these cars, topping them out is not on my prority to do, I dont believe they are safe at speed above 250km/hScotty
