Bullet Proof Clutch Kits....

hey guys,

im not in the market for a clutch as of yet, I have recently upgraded to typhoon ap racing clutch, the clutch drives beautiful but still have some doubts on what it can put up with. I am after a clutch kit that can withstand the following:

-dump at 4000rpm consistant in 1st,2nd & 3rd gear.

-ride hard to get a decent launch at 3500-4000rpm

-whilst in gear, stall it up by applying the brake to pik up boost.

-flat changing/snap changing.

-NO slipping at all.

please dont mention that with all the above drive styles there is a chance I can blow cv's coz im already well aware of that. I just want a clutch that I can buy to put up with this day in day out. and no I dont expect it to drive smooth an soft I understand it will have to be firm and possibly noisy.

cheers frank!

Talk to Mal Wood's. I'm sure they have something to suit your needs.

I have, im thinking of either an option 5 or 6, or possibly putting cerametallic clutch plates in my existing ap racing clutch. but thought id post a thread incase there is something even better or about to be released that I dont know about. e.g an option 7?

what about something like a twin plate? the ones ive driven anyway are nice and soft feeling on the pedal so you dont have a left leg the size of arnie's because its so heavy :pinch: but no play in the clutch and boy can they take some abuse :spoton:

Edit: Here is someones experience with a twin plate in their 6T

I have the option 6 with the twin Carbon plates, you loose a little driveabilty around town but it's the only one that will take that sort of driving you want to give it.

Since I got mine Mal has a twin cushioned ceremic plate which will give a bit of driveabilty back.

These clutches are around the $2500 mark but you know it will last also backed by Mal's support.

Once you go way from a organic expect a loss of driveabilty.

Hope this helps.

Option 6 sounds like the toughest on the market. Youngy and I had a look at his clutch option 6 plates the other day and they were in good condition and he'd been doing some very heavy lauching at the drags with his. Also F6 UTE has a std AP twin plate (phoon clutch) and I've seen him punish that and it's been pretty good considering?

thanks for the info guys, the option 5 and 6 are definetly on the agenda, I have currently got the phoon clutch but after abit of hard consistent driving it doesnt grab at all and starts slipping. it really sh*ts me!

There are plkenty of other threads on this subject. I got a performance clutch from Brad at Atomic. Its a ten puck, sintered ceramic bronze, sprung hub with marcel. Seems to hold my 333rwkw pretty well. Not been on strip yet. Still have a slight shudder when I dont get the take-off just right. I know I can take off without a shudder so kick myself everytime I get it. I notice a huge difference in feel when I get back into a car with an organic clutch - the let out time is about three times longer. Pucks or buttons tend to be 'on' or 'off' and they do take a lot of getting used to.

Hope this helps. Brad knows clutches very well so have a chat to him too.

I have a triple plate Tilton in the Cobra - fantastic take up and grip - but... I would not want one in a road car. If you slip them at all, or end up in traffic a lot - they will not last very long. They look like Bronze sand glued to a piece of metal.
