New Ford has plenty of muscle

Article from: The Daily Telegraph

By Paul Gover

July 13, 2007 12:00am

THIS is the $500 million secret weapon Ford has developed to fight the Commodore.

The 2008 Falcon is still more than seven months away from Ford showrooms but nothing is hidden in these exclusive pictures of the make-or-break family car.

They show a Falcon which is totally fresh, much more modern, and more than capable of fighting the VE Late model camira for the hearts and wallets of Australian car buyers.

Ford Australia has spent more than $500 million on the new Falcon, codenamed Orion, and is also developing a replacement for the popular Territory wagon along the same lines.

The Orion has totally new bodywork over the top of a mechanical package which continues the six-cylinder and V8 engines from today's BF model and its impressive suspension and safety systems.

The Orion is more rounded and contemporary but still has the muscle which has made the Falcon so popular.

Impressive, clever and possibly a new styling direction for a vehicle front. I don't recall ever seeing something quite like that on any make of car.

Has the F6 intercooler gone stealth?

What are the dull silver rectangles inside the mega air intake?

Regards,

aa
