Project O2STOCK

Well I finally got around to modifying the Typhoon, I learnt a lot from modifying the XR6T I had before plus gathered a great deal of information from the forum members. Special thanks to All the guys at F.I.S.T and the guys from the forum / HeadSex / Raphoon / Jetute / Alex at Plazmaman plus all the others for helpful advice.

The aim of the project was to increase RWKW without placing too much extra stress on the motor (If this was possible), the idea was to remove any restrictions. By this I mean I could have achieved the RWKW figure with out all these modifications by increasing the boost / fuel / timing. However with out the bolt-ons the boost levels would have been far higher and the timing more aggressive than what I was prepared to accept.

Deciding which parts to use for the project was probably the hardest part of the modification process, as there are a lot of great products out there in the market place. Some are more proven that others some are more expensive and use different techniques in the end listed below are the items which I decided to use.

X-force twin dump – twin pipes – large mufflers (Recommended by BCL, the large mufflers idea)

Siemens Deka injectors (Thanks to headsex for the heads up on these pardon the pun)

Plazmaman complete plenum kit.

Plazmaman 1200 Hp intercooler

Plazmaman battery relocation kit

Plazmaman cold air intake kit and box

Capa edit

Waste gate and actuator modification as detailed in headsex posts thanks again

Surge tank and pump supplied by XTC (AKA Dynowog)

Well stage one was to remove all the FoMoCo bits that were no longer needed. This included the air box and all associated plumbing including the factory plenum and battery. A handy hint, when removing the factory battery on FPV,s the factory alarm will sound. But if you turn the key to on then remove the battery all is silent. Here you can see the Plazmaman battery sitting loosely in position.

Next job was to tape up the lower factory intake manifold in preparation for the fitment of a Plazmaman Plenum. This required the outer holes to be drilled though the lower manifold to allow the plenum to be bolted from the underside. (This technique is also used on the Nizpro manifold for the front bolt). I decided on the Plazmaman plenum for the fact that no bolts are fitted inside the intake manifold, plus a bit of bling never hurt anyone ?

Unpack the bits ready for fitment. Oh so shiny, below is the underside of the Plazmaman plenum the intake trumpets are machined for increased air flow.

Plenum on and throttle body, battery roughly in position

Next bumper bar off and factory inter cooler off. Replaced with the Plazmaman unit, here the hot side of the turbo pipe work is connected. This is a another interesting point, most of the other kits I have seen kept the original factory hot side pipe work. Where as the Plazmaman unit replaced all the factory pipes no rubber items remaining.

Finished fitting the cold side pipe work (clamps to be fitted after a bumper bar check ) and battery relocation. (My number one helper Josh (son) pictured)

There seems to be a lot of 350+rwkw cars getting around now, I don't doubt this will be another one.

I reckon the XR6T would have to be one of the most modifyed Australian built cars ever.
