Well, it appears our friends at Expensive Daewoo may be misleading the public with understated figures of the Commodores weight. The XR6T coming in at 1685kg (Motor mag) doesn't seem so bad when the SS actually weighs closer to 1652kg (Drive article) if measured the same way.

This makes the actual power to weight figures as follows:

Ford XR6T : 7.02kg/kw

Expensive Daewoo SS: 7.03kg/kw

Clever marketing by Ford, the cars are practically spot on.

Very interesting, so the BA isn't so porky after all (compared to the competition anyway).

l thought the last line was particularly damning and confirms what l, and no doubt most other people were thinking all along as to Holdens motivations for the change.

Marketing people must be taught that the public is nothing but a bunch of collective dickheads if they expect us to believe there explanation  Must be another public 'perception' problem

Hey I'm the first to bag a Dunniedore but I think Ford has fiddled the words too. Anyone checked Junes Motor mag with the APS XR6T in it? When dyno tests were done on the Turbo it pulled 195 at the wheels. The XR8 pulled 180 at the wheels. 240 againts 260 and 15 Kw's differant at the spinning bits in favour of the Turbo. Either the 8 was a dud or Ford are on a day pass from Disneyland. PS With just the piggyback ECU 235ATW!!!!!! Bang for bucks ya just can't beat that.

I agree Mondie - the last line was put beautifully.

How can Expensive Daewoo defend this when quite clearly they have ommitted the word 'kerb' from their brochures?

Holdens also have another benefit up their sleeve. The GENIII's get lighter the more you drive them as the oil level gets dramatically lower!!!!

Considering our guys make the decision which car they order, the majority have been ordering the Brand Crap SS due to the fact that it has a lighter weight (so they've been lead to believe)

Once you factor in all the equipment you carry the cars are actually pretty heavy. I distinctly remember a couple of guys that put their VXSS on the weighbridge at Mt Wilson and with two up, all the gear in the boot, radio, radar etc the porky pig weighed 1985kg.

They thought the weighbridge was wrong (it wasn't) and I laughed when the XR8 was 1750kg. Of course the observer was told that he was too fat.

Haven't weighed a BA yet but will put an XR8 on the weighbridge once we get it (and get some time to get over there)

I don't see this weight issue as being much different to the way Ford calculate their power figures. :blank:

So if they're nearly the same why is the Ford slower? Ford have more power.
