BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

Brake shudder is normally caused by pads!

all brake pads deposit a layer of material onto the face of the disc this gives the most effective braking.

It is when a pad deposits an excess amount of material onto the disc that the problems begin, excess material becomes too hot and causes the disc to develop runout, and once the disc develops runout the problem keeps compounding.

If its just the pads, then why did Ford adjust the calipers in Oct 2003 models? I doubt Ford are really that dumb! (Hmm, maybe ;))

I don't get it.. Ford could just use other pads which would have been cheaper for them rather than machining the disks (or replacing them) so many times per car.. :ermm:

More complex than just swapping pads the excess pad transfer could stem from several different causes

-Poor quality pads

-poor knockback or calipers which don't allow the pad to fully disengage the disc

causing excessive heat and excess pad layer transfer and then shudder

There are other causes this is all I can think of right now all cause excess pad transfer though

The machining will never fix a warped disc as once machined true so the rotors dont shudder there will be sections of disc left with less metal giving a lower thermal heat absorbing and dissapating ability, again leading to warped discs

OK so I called EBC today to talk about brakes for XR's.

They are also about a month or so away from their Greenstuff Kevlar pad being available.

That's almost funny. I called 'em around May last year and they told me the Greenstuff pads we're a month away...

A lot of guys have had shudder problems with these EBC Greenstuff pads on WRX's have'nt used them myself but that was the general vibe on MRT.com there is a discussion board re brakes with alot of good info from DBA Steve
