I put a wideband air/fuel ratio meter on a stock BA Fairmont and a stock supercharged VT to check their ratios.

The stock BA N/A will sit on 14:1 on cruise and wont go any lower. I get about 450 km a tank and works out about 13l/100km

The supercharged VT goes into lean tune as soon as you back off the accelerator which is 16:1 air fuel ratio and I can get 650km per tank (10l/100km) same driving.

I dont know why the BA does not run any leaner in cruise but must be something to do with conserving the cat converter/emissions or something I am not aware of. But Holdens lean tune cirtainly delivers the economy.

My dads XT can easily get 550 to 600 out of a tank and that isn't driving it that easily and a decent amount of that is in city traffic.

Around 9 on the freeway, 12 around town and 99.9 in the mountains

This REALLLLYYY f*cking hurts, but I'm with him. :msm:

Have noticed that I get better economy in performance mode rather than auto with the ZF. Must be due to the fact that it's not labouring as much :spit:

Yes, the ZF is programmed to give the best possible result when it operates on the fuel economy cycle (whatever Australian Standard that is at the moment). However, real world driving is a little harder on the engine, and so you'll find you will get better economy in performance mode. However you will get even better economy if you leave it in adaptive mode and change your diff ratio to 3.23.

Jeff, buddy, mate.....I drive an auto - what are you doing agreeing with me??? :yikes:

13.6l per 100k's. And I never reset it, its the life of the car but only 4500k's on it so far. I am kinda hoping it gets a lil better.

Ive noticed that flogging the thing on cruises gives me better fuel economy than driving around the city normally. Whay is that?

12.9 around town and 8.6 on freeway runs. (in-dash computer says 13.3 and 9 though).

It was high 14s until it got past 4,500ks (and into the 17s when I made the mistake of using Shell V Power, stick with BP and it stays down).

Interesting. The 20/100 im getting is using shell vpower. Why is that?

Dunno.

I happend to hear some people complaining about the same thing on the radio a few weeks back (the same time I had used it). One fleet manager said their cars were getting 50ks less per tank on V power.

I know that most hi powered 4 stroke dirt bikes wouldn't run on Optimax (at one point Yamaha was telling customers not to use it). Shell obviously put something in it.
