Optional low pressure gas struts (suit lightweight bonnet)- $88

Optional water underpans $88

Judging from the pic, looks like the bonnet hasn't been finished in the car's colour yet. Should come up as an exact match I'd imagine.

As far as aftermarket bonnets for the turbo go, I'd say this is would have to be the best. Looks good, not too over the top. I could possibly live with one of these, if it weren't for the little issue of 'legality' ie ADR crash compliance...

Paint matched correctly on a black or red car it would look great.

Hmm not adr compliant..no insurance...decapitation possiblity in a head on smash....not fan of any of them..quite like the boonet though...

Does anyone actually know of a case where a fibreglass panel has done anything like that?

Corvettes have had fibreglass panels since they were first made and they arent even made from fibreglass cloth, just chopped strands. Still have FRP panels now too (though more advanced resin and manufacturing processes).

GM wouldnt expose itself to massive liability like that if there was doubt about the material.

And, yes I realise GMs testing is a little more thorough.

Ive never seen an AWC bonnet so I cant really comment on how well designed / built they are from an impact point of view, but fibreglass isnt a weak material when done right.

More advanced composites are used already as actual impact structures in cars, aircraft etc.

I would imagine that the fibreglass bonnet used on corvettes have similar crumple/fold zones as a normal metal bonnet. I dont think lack of strength in fibre glass bonnets would be the issue as your right it is very strong and used in structural areas. My main concern would be the bonnet shearing or fracturing off at the mounting points and remaining intact in a crash and entering the passenger compartmet rather than folding like a metal bonnet. But your right i havent seen any proof only the usual story but a lack of adr compliance doesnt exactly fill me with hope...
