Edit T5 Manual

Featured Replies

I have 2 part question.

My mate wants to edit his T5 manual.

How much torque and power can the t5 clutch handle??

He only wants small increase in power. So we going to asks the power to be limtied.

What are peoples experiences and what power levels they reccomend to keep it at.

2nd part..

How much quicker down the 1/4 will the car be.

Cheers in advance....

If he doesn't want to change the clutch don't expect anything much quicker than mid to high 13's. Plus you'll fry the clutch on the strip. I have no personal experience but 230rwkws would probably be your safe limit.

If the clutch is about the same as a T56, you can easily fry it at 220rwkw, as I found out. Clutch recovered, but it will never be any good on the strip. So no quater miles for me.

Kinda has me f*cked how people can mod cars without gearbox being the first mod.

I have had my T5 running at 250 rwkw for 120,000 km now without gearbox problems (it was always a schitt gearbox and always will be).

Clutch on the other hand died within 15,000 km of power upgrade. No strip work, just normal driving, it didn't cope with the increased torque.

It really depends on the tune.

My MkI T had the 5 speed. The clutch required replacing immediately after Wog tune (fried it on the 2nd dyno run). The box went from perfect (as a T5 could be) to a whiny bag of cogs within 2 months. The car was tuned to 286RWKW and big torque.

If torque is held back down low and brought on more progressively, then you may see 240+RWKW. Even then you will eventually have to replace the clutch. BUT. Dial in more torque and you will have issues.

Mine went at 250rwkw and at the stip I could only manage a 14.2 with it slipping the whole way down the track.

I managed 13.5 with the standard clutch slipping. It was never the same after that, always slipping in 5th and 4th, and was starting to get worse in 3rd before I replaced it.

mine is at 248rwkw with 700nm torque and the gearbox has lasted 2 months and now its whining in 2nd and 3rd gear, I did have the car at 300rwkw and ~900nm torque but the gearbox died within 2 days of getting the car back

I got a slight whine after about 1 hour and the clutch was slipping on the dyno. Whine is not too bad bad scares me abit.
