I forgot to mention.. I have crappy headers and I am not happy with my exhaust at all.... I know the is at least another 10rwkw in it if I had a Herrod or Di fillipo's complete system... I currently have Geni Tri-y's and a custom 2x2.5 exhaust.....

Bought my V8 last January, did the usual mods, CAI, full exhaust and flash tune, but she's not hitting the spot for me.

Now thinking in terms of the verniers, diff, high stall or blower.

Wait on that's a shed more money and I may not get the ride I want!

What ride do I want, I want the kick in the back without having to carry a load of speed. She feels fine after 100km/h but below that you need to be charging around in 2nd gear.

So, change to a BF turbo with 6 speed auto. Flash tune it and get what I'm looking for?

Is that the answer?

Things I'd miss, the sound, the bulge, the stripes. The wife hates all three, so I may get some WAF for the change ;-)

Thoughts, am I making a big mistake, 'cos I fear I may never own a V8 again!

I've also posted this on AFF V8 section.

Des. Get your XR8 cammed with Vernier gears and you will have the beast you were wanting..... I am nt sure whether or not you have seen my thread in the Herrod forum on AFF.. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=65330 ...

But at the moment My XR8 has got 282rwkw with 650rwnm, and that with a Very tight and fresh engine.. Once ran in it should get between 290- 300rwkw... The main figure you should be looking at is the torque it is making

it is getting close to what the turbo boys are making and only 50nm less the what a BPT top mount SC BOSS is making... Sure it is still not as much as the Turbo boys but it sure is getting there, and the power is instant, no waiting for the turbo to come onto boost and you also have the awesome v8 exhaust to listen to, not to mention the induction roar.....

This is one of the first Dyno runs that rob did on my ute.. the tune is more revised now, as I said 282 and 650 @ wheels..... also the torque is lasting longer....

I don't think the torque can be compared, my t is nothing speical, and it went over 1000nm

Why dont you get the vortex supercharger and a tune? I was at a ford day 4-5 weeks ago and every 2nd boss 260-290 had one. its about $6K but the numbers looked good and yoy get too keep the sound.

Mate for the ride you say you want you have the right number of cylinders - just in the wrong car that's all.

Not sure if this is the second or third time, but :crybaby:

Best way to put it :crybaby:

Having previously owned a BA XR8 & now a BF6T/6spead Auto I can say that the Turbo is the most enjoyable to drive of the two cars. The Turbo comes on strong at about 2,000rpm whereapon the 8 has to get to 4,000rpm before it starts to wake up, by this time the former has been & gone. Also the Turbo seems to be better handling, no doubt because it has less weight over the front wheels. I have been beaten by a older VRX Magna in acceleration up to 100kph in the 8, but I'm sure this would not happen in the Turbo. The 6 speed Auto definately makes a lot of differance in pickup & no doubt would be the same in the 8. I don't miss the bulge in the bonnet (better vision) but I do miss the lusty bellow. Also the economy was not the best in the 8, (average 12.5ltr 100 on a trip) whereapon I was getting alot better with the T (9.5ltr 100) with only 1,000k's on the clock. This has improved considerately, although I have still only got 3,000 on the clock. I agree with the others take one for a drive you won't be dissappointed. You will pay a little extra at the pump with PULP but you can even it out with E10. Cheers. :spoton:

All the V8 has over the T is the sound.

The 6 can have the buldge and the stripes added, is quicker, easier and cheaper to mod, handles better, lighter, nicer drive and uses less fuel.

If Ford pulled their finger out and properly developed their V8 (technologically superior to the Chevs) then it would be a different story.
