I run the Kewish box and think they'd have the toughest 4spd around. How many of the others have run lots of 10 second passes with 1.5x 60'.

Geea. :glad:

And where is your car now? :glad::smilielol:

Don't worry yes it has happend again Craig guess what happend to the ute last night!

2muchkw the box itself will not hold together with 350-400rwkw for any real length of time no matter which of the 3 builders build your box. The 2nd/4th band is a weak point and a rebuild at least once a year is a reality at the moment for cars that are driven hard at these power levels.

I know David at Kewish is trying a new modification on Craigs car at the moment and Preston Autos is also trying one on mine. I have not had dealings with Yarra Valley autos however if Nizpro use them I am sure they provide a qaulity rebuild.

At the moment they rebuild them and then we break them and they rebuild them with new mods to try and stop us breaking them.

All the time and money that is going in to them would'nt it be better to just fit up a C9 and be done with it?

The bands can be modified for extra strength and I dont think its too difficult do.

I think the way the box builder gets the box to shift harder also has a bearing on how well the bands and other components to survive. If the box builder is still using the S5 solenoid in the shift pattern then I think this is not the most efficient way to get the box shifting. IMO the S5 solenoid has to be completely bypassed during heavy shifts (this is what I do). Reason being is hydraulics can only do so much work in a given time period. Therefore under heavy load there maybe two engagements of band/clutches at one split second in the gear change which gives the band a harder than usual time. Give it time and these boxes will get sorted out pretty well.

I spoke with Dave @ Kewish today regarding my auto. He told me that I had snapped the band, this is a bigger, stronger band. He's going to keep the car for awhile and do some testing on valvebody mods to make the 3-4 shift firmer when going hard. This should help the band. He's also getting a better band made that originally came from a different box. It has a different construction that should be stronger.

He's also waiting on a new stall convertor from Dominator that is supposed to give more power in the mid range. As the auto doesn't actually make power I think it means that the auto will lose less power. The convertor needs to be made and could be awhile so I'm not expecting my car for a couple of weeks.

So which auto shop in Australia is presently the best at toughening the 4 speed auto to handle 350 - 400 rwkw?

What are the differences between the 4 speed auto's that Preston's, Yarra Valley & Kewish are currently selling?

Does anyone have any concrete evidence of Pros n Cons of each of these differently modified 4 speed auto boxes?

I notice that Yarra Valleys upgrade is the most expensive ... so in the forum members opinions is it the best?

Would appreciate all views upon this topic?

Cheers

Its hard to say who has the tuffest. As I know of 3 others who also currently have the same or similar transmissions issues to mine. Not all cars are from the same transmission specialist.

Be interesting to hear members views on all the modded autos for I am thus far tending to lean toward purchasing a Yarra Valley auto.

Has anyone heard of failures regarding Yarra Valley modded boxes?

Cheers

I have a yarra valley auto in my car and although I am not running as much power as alot of the guys here I am still running good times for the power that I have which I credit the auto for. It changes gears lightning quick but still runs factory pressure which does contribute to a longer life.360rwkws is at the limit of a modded 4speed auto.the cost is about $2500+$500 if you want a hi-stall conv

For the SA crowd, Modbury Auto/Diff Specialists rebuilt my box...

Ask for Sam or Shane.

My power output is not in the same league as Craig or Deano though, so I don't know how it will cope with > 350 rwkw. :pooh:

If/when I get the rods/crank replaced, I guess I'll find out.

I am running a touch over 300 rwkw though, and after 18 months, no probs.

Had the trans serviced recently, and no issues at all. :pinch:

Have spoken today with Dave at Kewish about a C9. Think I am going to go down that path at this stage as it is a painful process to keep breaking things in the current box.

Will your car be quicker than mine then? If you beat me 1 out of 5 times you should be happy. :censored: Seriously mate, good luck with it. Can you handle the 3rd gear drone you might encounter with the C9 though?

While we are on the C9, can anyone tell us a bit about it? Where it comes from, etc.

p.s. It's my thread and I'll hijack if I want to.

Looks like we will have to wait for you on the cruise down to the BVWE2 while you fuel up :censored:
