Kevlar is just that by my understanding a paper/Kevlar/Carbon composite of materials to allow a better disapation of heat thus reducing bite.

Hi-energy on the other hand are a steel based band which wont flex as much as a composite.

Could well be wrong though...

Its Odd that you still have 4th gear, as the band that controls 2nd also is used to operate 4th.

In auto mode, it won't go into 4th. It will only use 1st and 3rd. But when I manually shift, it will go into 4th and stay there. When I manually shift into second, it's like nuetral until higher revs are achieved where it will then kick into 2nd gear. Pretty weird hey.

It's definately the band. I think you'll find you have no 4th either. Go on the open road and try to engage 4th, it won't be there. Mine is also currently having it's band replaced at Kewish. The band is the biggest weakness in these boxes. Dave @ Kewish is also doing some more valve body mods to try to eliminate the problem.

Rob,

You will be happy to hear mine went last week as well. The box is coming back out and going to Kewish this week or next. I was just thinking to myself how long yours would last with your new power level. I think when we had a squirt the other week and mine was playing up that it was the last harrah for 2nd gear!

Craig,

I believe Dave will be giving mine the same treatment as yours. It seems my mid-range torque is possibly causing advanced band wear. I have only managed to get a about 10,000 kms out of the 2nd gear band so far - as you know - I have lost 2 already and only have 18,000 kms on the clock.

I've looked into this and considered making 1 heavy duty band by TIG welding parts of a second band onto the weak parts of the HD band and then getting it relined by a guy in the east who relines bands.

But if there is already a HD band (the steel part of it) out there please let me know.

Duz anyone know who makes the aftermarket high pressure apply servos for this box.

I rang Andrew at Preston's today. He said if I send it down they'll sort it out. He said it sounds like the band has broke(as others have stated here) and as long as there isn't any damage to the drum, it shouldnt take too much to get it going again.

Craig, you're right, it doesn't have 4th either. At least not any more.

Now all I need to do is work out wether to rip the box out or send the whole car down to Melbourne.

Link, I'm not happy to hear about your gearbox crapping itself. But please don't use it as an excuse for me repeatedly smackin' you silly on both rolling starts and from standstill. :stirthepot::kissmy:

The boys will look after you Rob, if they don't just let me know and "I will pay them a visit" lol. I had lunch with them last week and we were discussing the whole 2nd 4th band thing ( I have done 3 myself) It is somthing all the auto guys are working on as it is an ongoing problem.

Mind you the alternative is smashing planetary gears when the bands hold up and that gets expensive pretty quickly I can tell you.

The BTR autos have never really had to cope with anything like the sought of power and torque a modified T can produce, it will take time to find a solution (if there is one)
