Auto Transmission Oil Change

hello there

I have a auto xr6t and am thinking of changing the oil and the filter on my 35,000 km service.

I have noticed a bit of a whine in 1st gear lately and was wondering if this could be related to the oil? anyone else had this?

and is it a good idea to change it early as I think that you are not due for one until the 60,000km mark.

It certainly won't hurt it.

I've done 75,000km and I've changed the auto fluid 4 times.

I know its overkill, but I change my trans fluid every 10K's.

Trans oil gets bloody hot, so its cheap insurance.

How do you change the auto transmission fluid? I have done a search and found everything else but not this. I know the best fluid to use has been discussed a couple of times here but I can't find that either? Is the search engine a little less than user friendly or am I just technically challenged?

Concur with Mick, it's cheap insurance considering what the tranny goes through - along with a decent cooler as well. Drop the pan so each time you can also inspect certain of the internals and you'll need to factor in a new gasket as well each time. Currently using Castrol transmax Z.

In a nutshell - with great difficulty. I wouldn't imagine most of these guys doing it themselves. Although I have been wrong once or twice before.

Do you clowns just do a straight change or give it a bit of a flush as well?

its pretty easy.. I've done it before on my AU. Theres a plate that unclips/unscrews and all the oil drops out, then you just change the filter, wash the magnets inside the plate (to get all the very fine metal dust off them) then put it all back together and fill it up.

Glenn, what about draining the converter and radiator cooler?
