Trying to tell my cousin overseas about the XR6 T and he asked how much horsepower it has. I told him in KiloWatts.

He has no idea.. and I have no idea how to 'convert' them.

anyone know? or does anyone know the number in HP?

Have been told be quite a few people that if you have 300rwhp it equates to roughly 300fly wheel kilowatts. Ive been lead to believe that drive train loses are similar to the conversion ratio from hp to kw so it works as a rough guide to flywhell kilowatts.......make sense?

dunno if its BS or not..... :spoton:

Well it's rough that's for sure!

Work it back for yourself ...

Rear wheel power will generally be 15% to 25% less than engine power depending on the efficiency of the driveline. Now that's a fairly "wide" range isn't it?

Now a working example ... T3s have a claimed 250kW motor. Most of the manuals I've seen reported show around 205kW at the rears. That's a driveline loss of 18% which seems pretty acceptable for a manual drivetrain.

Now 205kW is about 274HP, NOT 250. So the rough conversion is a fair way out.

However if we take another working example ...

XR6Ts have a claimed 240kW engine. Most of the autos we have seen dyno results for show around 190kW at the rears. A driveline loss of about 20% which again is reasonable for an auto trans.

190kW is 254HP, NOT 240, but a closer approximation than the previous one. So there you go - sometimes the rough guide will be VERY rough and other times it may be a fairly close approximation.

Personally I'd take absolutely no notice of it whatsoever! Judge for yourself.

Does anybody know how to convert cubes to litres?

For example, a 351 cube is 5.8 litres

a 302 is roughly 5 litres.

so what is a 378 cube?

rough is to divide by 60.

so 378 is 6.3litre.

that's only rough though.
