the japanese will never accept a product from a western country with as much enthusiasm as a japanese product.

If the Xbox or 360 was a japanese product it would be a runaway success over there, but being of western origin is uncool to them... it seems as though they are very selective as well, since starbucks etc are a huge success over there ??

and as for PS3 vs 360, there are lots of arguments to support why one is better than the other but in reality they will be very close..

whoever said PS3 is twice as powerful - do you remember the pre launch hype for the PS2 ???

"weapon systems controlling power"

"able to render toy story graphics in realtime"

Yet the PS2 while a powerful machine due to its 'emotion engine' architecture and dual 128-bit vector processing units, the reality is that nothing has come close to looking like Toy Story and I can't recall anyone controlling weapon guidance systems with one..

I will be buying a 360 when they are released and depending on the price of the PS3, I will pick up one of those as well with the bonus of Bluray if it becomes a popular standard..

As for the meantime the 360 and its HD-DVD will do me

The 360 doesn't have a HD-DVD just yet, Microsoft are keeping this one up there sleeve for a rainy day (ahh let's say when the PS3 & Blueray hit the market).

Keeping costs down and not being supported as well as the MSoft would like, so it's just a normal DVD drive for the 360 at the moment on both versions.

They plan on releasing an add-on HD-DVD drive down the track, but only to support movies at first, then possibly games... this means what? Software companies have to then release 2 versions of the games for Xbox, one for normal DVD and another for HD-DVD - messy to say the least!!! Not a good move in my opinion.

Toshiba not long ago announced a standalone HD-DVD at $499 (US), it's gonna be a while before it's price is down and media isn't $$$, technology moves fast these days I know, just don't hold your breath on this.

I was just talking to one of the higher up guys at Eb and found out that their will be NO ESA warranty for 360 offered from day one for a while.

It seems EB in the US has taken a pretty hard hit from returned overheating consoles.

This does not bode well ... :crybaby:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc can hold 25GB, which can be used to record over 2 hours of HDTV or more than 13 hours of standard-definition TV. There are also dual-layer versions of the discs that can hold 50GB.

Self explanitory as to why it's good. :crybaby:

Cool... yep, sounds hot! 25GB on a single disc is sweet... and to get all the manufacturers together to invest in one technology and make it brilliant rather 10 different technolgies and in the end only have one or two of them survive anyway is brilliant...

Cheers Dagabond!
