1000 Kms In A Typhoon

Well, it has been 8 days since 0412 was collected and one thousand kms have passed under those delightful wheels.

It is a little dirty at present – the brake dust just coats all the rear side skirt and apron, the rear of the car has copped a fair bit of it also and that is trying to go easy on the brakes! The gearbox is starting to loosen up – thank god. It is far less notchy now than what it was and I am getting used to the clutch, sort of. It does take some concentration to do smooth changes. I have let the tyre pressure down to 31psi as the ride was getting very tiring on 38psi. Even the owner’s manual recommends 30psi. Although, after having a spirited drive on some nice smooth free flowing 3-4th gear corners, they could be up a little in those conditions.

The drive line lash is terrible. Absolutely shocking – way worse than my Ute. I think I will wait until the new supplier for diffs is sorted out come Mark III and then I may hit them up for another. It is the single most abhorrent thing about an otherwise great car. Deplorable.

I have started giving it a few bootfuls here and there now and it does have some go for a standard car. I can see why motor mag said it did the Clubbie in every rolling test they tried. The mid-range is sensational. I can’t wait for another couple of weeks until the injectors, intake’ PWR ‘cooler, exhaust and edit is in. Damn, that should be exciting! :msm:

Brilliant stuff mate glad to see your happy, do u think its much quicker then your ute when stock?

Mate got to agree about the brake dust freakin stuff.

As for driveline lash, I get a tiny bit in gear when not on the gas but not off either, just at that neutral point between the 2 if that makes sense :msm:

I will have my mods fitted in a few weeks also, APS phase 2 with edit (no chip)

We will be interesting to compare output and the different tunes, get them Dyno charts ready :msm:

Should get an all comers Rapid F6 defectors cruise together , seems there are a few of us around :msm:

Definitely quicker than my ute when stock - without a doubt. Whether it is the extra grunt (derr) or the shorter gearing helping.......... definitely quicker.

Second gear is the worst for the lash, although third is ordinary also. Dam Aussie cars... :msm:

Hmmm, a Rapid 'phoon cruise.....

I'm confused..... Don't know what this 'lash' thing is.... Done 5,000ks in my Phoon - and even with vigorous driving - city and country - haven't had any lash issues.

Only thing that bugs me is squealing (premium) brakes..... Dealer had a go at fixing - but that lasted 200ks.

But u r definitely right about the mid-range, it is absolutely awesome! Especially after my STi....

:laughing::k24t:<_<

l am so keen on either an F6 or GT-P early next year but hearing that scares me. Is there meant to be some improvements to the diff situation come mk3? If not buying a demo will be the only way to go, at least then l can avoid an outright pig.

Sorry to hear about the lash in your F6 Shane. My car is shocking for it and I'm taking her back for the 3rd time to have a go at them.

Have you ordered the parts from SMB yet? If not let me know as I'm looking at the same mods so maybe we could get a better price if ordering 2.

Cheers

Craig, I haven't as yet but I plan to on Monday or Tuesday next week so let me know. I plan on getting the 4 inch dunp and the 4 inch metallic substrate cat (the cylindrical one). I am going to mate it up to the standard exhaust. I was going to go 4 inch but I like it nice and quiet now.

On another completely separate issue. Has anyone else got a mate with seemingly nothing else better to do than have a go at you for being on this forum by sending a link to a thread you started to all your mates - like this one for example?? So Wal, if you come here to read what I have written in future, go screw yourself and ask me directly.

My driveline shunt / lash whatever you call it, is friggn terrible too. Best way to avoid it is too speed excessively. But after just getting my licence back I put up with the shunt!!! My 2000 Jackaroo with 'drive-by-wire' throttle used to get it as well. Dont know if a more sensitive throttle highlights the problem??? dont know just guessing. Drove another mustang (2002) the other day and I prefer that 5sp over my 6sp. Not complaining though......six gears rule!!!
