Ford Reflash

Well, after reading all the debate on the Ford reflashes, I came to the conclusion that it must be a good thing overall. I know I'll probably get shot down for saying that, but I'm sure/hope a few others will agree too.

In fact, I've got enough confidence that it IS a good thing that I've just given permission to my Ford dealer to reflash the car today. My gawd, I hope I'm right!!

I pick it up tonight and will let you know my thoughts, whether they be good or bad... :fingersx:

Well, I didn't really, but it was going in for some other issue and the dealer said that they were planning to reflash it while it was in. I had a short discussion with him, he swore blind that it would improve the car and that I wouldn't lose power, and backed with what I've read here, I gave him the go ahead to do this.

Yes, that it is, one of the reasons why I was happy for them to do it. I plan on modding it a bit in future and figured that if the reflash is sh*te, I can always change it later on!!

I understand the reflash could pose a problem if you have an Edit in place, but I thought that if you had an APS kit installed, for example, that a reflash by Ford wouldn't matter at all?

I've had the reflash and have the stock CAPA 8psi map loaded and ran the 1/4 @ 107mph.... In my opinion this talk about it decreasing the cars performance is rubbish.

I had my car reflashed a few weeks back and there is no problem. I think that it may run a little bit harder/faster but the petrol consumption seems to be a little higher.

my ford tech said that forget all the rubbish that you have heard and that it is a good thing. I probably agree at this stage

In July's Motor Magazine I saw the first apparent comment from Ford that actually says what the flash is supposed to do:

"The XR6 Turbo reflashing does not, in any way, affect power and/or torque. It is done in regard to a 'potential for overboost' where a protection system was cutting in too early and causing a hesitation between 3000-4000rpm."

This was done to death a while back, and then it seems everyone thought it was actually OK. I certainly do as my 2005 build auto with latest firmware was 185.9rwkw which is very good for a stock auto.
