April 11, 200521 yr #1 Hi allI'm thinking of purchasing a new WRX or an XR6 Turbo mk II. I'm not going to lie I'm leaning towards the WRX.Both cars have their pros and cons and I've taken both cars for a test drive but you can only learn so much from a 10-15min drive. I'm wanting to make the right decision before I give away my hard earned cash.I love the engine in the XR6 Turbo and the 6 speed box is a nice addition. Also the colour range is great. The things I don't like is the standard seats and steering wheel in these (XR6) cars. The pattern on the seats looks tacky imo. I'd definitely get the lux pac on this car because I think it looks a million times better and the sports steering wheel.Getting the lux pac has great additions with the sound system, dual zone climate control but also bumps the price to over the $51,000 mark. One thing I wasn't able to test is the handling of the XR6 Turbo so I'd like to know how well it handles compared to a WRX?I basically like both cars, one is $11,000 more excluding on roads costs but is it $11,000 better? I start to think when the price hits over the $50k mark why not just go out and buy a WRX STI or a Typhoon? But I guess you could argue those cars cost a fair amount more also.I've check insurance for both WRX comes at $1800 and the XR6 Turbo is $1300 (with NRMA). I'm 23 so I don't know if I'm able to get insurance on an STI or a Typhoon. Thanks for any helpMarty
April 11, 200521 yr #2 Hey mate,Asking this in here your most likely to get "Buy the XR6T" but its your decision at the end of the day. Their two different vehicles that both perform and look hot. It all depends what your after. I looked at the WRX before I purchased the XR. But the XR6T was a much more fun vehicle ( I love RWD ). But agreeing with you and the interior I went a ute with leather, 6 stacker etc because it was much more affordable. Thw WRX just didnt have the fun factor of the XR and the performance gains are affordable. But like I said before you have to look at your options and your needs. PS Buy the XR6 Turbo you wont be dissapointed
April 11, 200521 yr #3 You are looking at to very different vehicles, what do you do with the vehicle? what will be its inteneded purpose? Buy the vehicle that suits your needs and within it's design brief. Both are exceptional value and both very capable. One last thing, your on a xr6turbo forum so expect the obvious reply's.
April 11, 200521 yr #4 I can't comment on the T v WRX debate, I have never owned the latter. A number of members here have and no doubt will comment for you.Check this thread out, posted by bcl, a very respected member around these parts:great threadI can confirm that NRMA will insure a Typhoon for someone under 25, a mate of mine just took delivery

The XR6T has great handling for its size, purpose and price. I think the XR6T steering wheels are great, comfy and practical. Seating pattern in grey is far less gaudy to the eye, but the comfort of the seats is v.good.XR6T pros over the WRX - effortless power; comfort; long drives are a breeze. Better at overtaking. WRX wins v.marginally in ¼ mile but requires brutal clutch dump. Carries lots of people and luggage effortlessly. Roomier. You need to determine which traits in the car are most important to you and then the car choice simply falls into place.btw, STi wouldnt be flash on long drives and not overly traffic-friendly.
April 11, 200521 yr #7 This is http://www.fordxr6turbo.com so the OBVIOUS anwser is the WRX! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Have to agree.... ..Go the "T" you won't regret it.
April 11, 200521 yr #8 There are quite a few people here who own/have owned both. My opinion is they are not competitors - different vehicles for different needs - what suits you?I'd like a WRX, 'cos I like any performance car, but it's made in Japan so I'd never buy one. I like my money to buy Aussie kids jobs not nip kids. That's just my racism coming to the fore - if the WRX suits you better buy it! I'm sure all the guys over on WRX.com would've already told you that anyway eh?
April 11, 200521 yr #9 Well I've purchased a house recently. Getting a dog soon so it needs space to lay down on the back seats. Will probably start a family some time in the future (don't see myself with more than two kids).Looking for a car that's fun to drive. I just love driving. My current car is a Toyota MR2 and I love goin down the coast with the roof off around the bend except it was a NA engine and would have trouble getting up the hills but it loved the corners. My girlfirends brother owns a Ford GT Mk II and his pushing me to get a XR6 or a Tyhpoon so I can join the Ford/FPV club here.I know you guys are gonna say XR6 Turbo over the WRX but I also know you're going to give reasons why it's better than a WRX.
April 11, 200521 yr #10 Drivin both cars and I have to say that the subaru has to be drivin hard to perform.Get it out of boost and you get caught out.I found the subaru interior cheap but fords standard interior is crap aswell.WRX out handles the T but the T's engine is so effortless.Mate its your call but for a big RWD car the T is a good BFYB choice.PS My T is 4 sale and is fully optioned with everything.
