I hear mixed opinion about if ford can detect that an edit has been installed and then removed. Can it or not? And why not?

Apparently the computer records the driving history, so when should you revert to the standard flash? 4 weeks before the next service, when?

You question has been answered already.

The Ford ECU has a very limited memory; nearly all of it is used up with the tune parameters alone. It only records something like 5 events, or something close to that. Allot of cars run around without even logging an event in the ECU so what are you worried about?

Like I said earlier, there isn't a time stamp on the file, there isn't enough space for it.....

Thanks Lawsy, I'm not worried about it as such, and while you say "it only records something like 5 events," nobody really knows or can confirm 100% (at least not yet anyway) which has me suspect about all the claims made about the product and how much they have thought through it. Ford spend mega bucks and years working out the ECU functions, I just wonder about the level of thought behind the Capa product (or its competitors for that matter). I've discussed the edit with 3rd party sellers, and I get the message that I should wait until the issues with are sorted until I buy.

The other question "if ford can detect that an edit has been installed and then removed. Can it or not?" may not just be reliant on data logging alone.

I'm still think I'm going to get the edit, but it would just be nice to know what I'm buying.

I think the feedback we have received on this topic has been fairly definitive. Both ST and the SCT developers (on another forum) have categorically stated that the flash cannot be detected, once the original factory tune has been re-flashed into the car.

the answer is quite simple. Once the "F" slot has a tune locked in it, it doesn't look for another one. If you wish to copy in an updated factory tune into that slot, then you will have to have it cleared by a dealer/CAPA.

Just regarding if "Ford" can tell whether you have an edit.

As Denmac Ford in Brisbane is a Herrod agent, you can buy your new vehicle from them with an edit already installed.

Guess they will know.....

Dont know anything about warranties but when update time comes, I'll be investigating this one more.

As I said earlier, For the moment Ford cannot detect Edit. Only thing they will notice is if the self learning has not changed. I don't believe many if any dealers would have the necessary hardware or nouse to have a look at this in a detailed way. If it is a serious warranty claim they may bring in a specialist to go over PCM.

How do you think they do that?

Ford have a team of programmers that are updating the Ford software. They add extra functions and features for future PCM's as they become more powerful.

Thay have or will be adding special code into the PCM. If it is altered or deleted it will be able to tell them that the PCM has been Edited by something. I believe it will be in some 2005 cars but will be in all by 2006.

He would'nt go into how it works in full detail. He also said Ford are not going to allow this to keep happening and will be doing everything they can to try and stop it.

I will also add that he is very impressed with the SCT software for what it is and is looking forward to tuning some cars with it.
