New Exhuast Note

I was lucky enough to pick up my car on friday. as we went to start it for the first time, the dealer said have a listen to the new exhaust sound. not sure whether it was my excitement about getting the car or not, but it did sound a lot better than the limited amount of other xr6t's that I have heard. I was told ford had modified the exhaust during the last few weeks. also some of the piping around the engine had been enlarged. either way it sounds great with a pretty deep burl on idle and gets better with more revs.

BTW - to all those still waiting it really is worth it. after 500km the car has exceeded all my expectations

Wig,

Hmm. I picked mine up friday week ago (28th March). I thought that mine sounded deeper than the car I had driven way back in December. I would love to compare it to others around or hear if Ford have in fact changed something...??

Harasn.. Any updates here for us??

yeah, no sh*t.....I install sunroofs part-time (I'm at uni)as most of you know (or maybe not) and we do alot of the new fords from the etheridge fords (spelling??) in croydon and we had 2 XR-Ts in the other day, one of which I was doing (had leather, 18s, premium sound in acid rush, very nice!!!!) and the other was a stardard blueprint manual T....the manual sound sh*te loads louder and deeper the the auto I was doing....the guys couldn't work it out....oh well that explains it.....I can't wait till I get mine!!!!

I'm not sure of the answer but it is possibly in the rear muffler - I removed the one from my son's ute last week and noted it was a straight-through type muffler. This is an unusual thing on a production car. I guess it's possibly Ford may have had a "normal" muffler in the rear on the early build cars. If anyone has an early build and wants to take off the rear muffler and let us all know what you find???

BTW - the car sounds bloody great with the rear muffler off - just connect through with two straight pieces of pipe. It doesn't drone at any revs and is never intrusive in the cabin. It is noticably louder at idle but as load and revs build it quietens down somewhat, then starts to bark (like the early model Jags) at just under 3000rpm. On the overrun it burbles really nice.

the exhaust went through heaps of changes late in the turbo program. so a new muffler wouldn't supprise me. we had to change them many times. man I hate removing the rear muffler on a turbo when its hot! hard work! The exhaust is always getting changed. as we are always trying to get a loud exhaust to pass the adr tests. fun and games!

There was a thread a while back about auto having a different (louder) exhaust note than manual - I can't recall the outcome, does anyone know? My auto delivered in Jan sounds different (louder) than demo manual I drove in December.

well the two we had in that day, the manual was definity loud, so I would have to say that's wrong..

The exhaust on my auto is considerably louder than the auto I test drove earlier this year. It was the first thing we noticed when we drove off from the dealership.

My XR6T is an early built - Nov 02 - and I always felt that the note should be a bit louder than it is. I thought about upgrading the exhaust with the Herrod product but what I read - it doesn't make much difference power wise. What can I do? Just want a deeper note - that's all.

maybe it also explains the dyno figure differences, small muffler, large muffler

low kw,higher kw

just a thought
