Posted 29/01/05 12:19 AM Posted 29/01/05 12:19 AM Hi,I have a custom (CAPA) tune booked for next Wednesday (2nd Feb.). As mentioned I have minimal mods (eg. air intake) and naturally will be interested in the outcome.I'll be sure to post them at some stage on Wednesday.Regards,Boomer<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Where are you getting it done atCYA JEFF

BACKGROUND:In stock form (plus 2nd CAI), my car was dynoed during the F.I.S.T. dyno day @ just below 210rwkw. My car has run the EDIT since late December and those who read these forums will know that I had the same typical Qld issues with popping etc. I fixed this by reducing the spark plug gap, however, the issues with surging etc were still evident.Today, the stock map produced 190 rwkw at Power Torque Engines (Dynolog Chassis Dyno) on a 30 degree day. Moreover, PTE's large fan for the front of the car had gone U/S the day before. Air was supplied by a small freestanding fan. All this tells me that the dyno should not be reading high.RESULTS:Peak power on the 10 PSI map came in at 265rwkw. BUT, this only tells a small part of the story. A number of issues were found during the dyno runs performed today:- The A/F ratio's were fine (refer attached).- The power delivery after reaching peak power falls away VERY quickly.- The power delivery is VERY inconsistent. For example, the power run immediately after the 265 kw, only reached slightly over 230kw with dips in the power curve and knocking. Throughout the test, no two runs showed any consistency.- When the car was first put on the dyno, it had sat for about 15 minutes (in the sun bonnet down) after a one hour drive. That run produced less power than the 8 PSI map. Heat soak was and issue but the variation in power was huge to say the least.- The 8 PSI map produced between 223 and 230 rwkw, but it also had more issues with knocking than the 10PSI map. This is clearly evident on the attached power curve.CONCLUSIONS:- There is nothing mechanically wrong with the car.- The supplied tunes produce the additional power in a much narrower band than a custom tune (piggy back or Edit).- I still have issues with surging whilst cruising.- The settings in the supplied tunes are clearly inconsistent with the weather conditions in Queensland, and will require adjustment to provide more consistent power, and customer satisfaction.I hope that this post will not only generate discussion, but also provide some insight into the potential the EDIT has as a tuning tool. The final results, however, will clearly depend on the skill of the tuner using it.Cheers

NighEve Member 193 Member For: 22y 1m 6d Posted 29/01/05 08:40 AM Posted 29/01/05 08:40 AM SIXRT - I have found very similar results - at least driving feel wise - with the 10psi map (re inconsistency - it to me is quite raw and will reach limits and seems to therefore engage more protection from the PCM when it is not in ideal conditions). The power is sometimes less then the 8psi map and in these times I just don't bother and usually keep it mostly on the 8psi map which is super smooth on my car. I feel that the heat soak and fuel limitations are the greatest issues on this map especially here in QLD. I am resigned to the fact that I will need to resolve both of these factors at some stage if I expect to run that level or more of boost and get consistency in the kind of climate here in QLD (Winter may be a different story ofcourse!). Let us know when you get yor custom tune done as I think that we'll see some better more consistent results coming through. The edit is in its infancy and needs some development in the tuning department - the tools are there ready to build (can't expect more than that at this stage comparatively speaking with other options if you look at your investment thus far). good luck!
RAPHOON Legacy Donating Member 1,776 Member For: 23y 2m 26d Posted 29/01/05 09:13 AM Posted 29/01/05 09:13 AM Thanks NighEve,I was surprised at the amount of fluctuation in the power runs and figured that this is an area which has not been sufficiently dealt with in the supplied tunes. My guess is that the environment in which they were created was different enough to our's, to ensure that these issues did not arise. Almost understandable considering the product is still in its infancy (meaning the XR tunes, not the SCT flash technology). What I am expecting, however, is that once the issue has been identified, the supplier rectifies it without stinging the customer again. After all, the first wave of customers have taken a leap of faith in supporting a new product. After all, there are a number of prospective customers out there following the developments with interest, and the feedback they receive from us may or may not influence their buying decision.
jordak Member 1,226 Member For: 22y 3m 13d Posted 29/01/05 10:14 AM Posted 29/01/05 10:14 AM I'm one of the fortunate edit users that hasn't had a problem with the 10psi tune. This may well be due to my low base power of 171rwkw, the weather in Perth (34 today) or simply that my cars dynamics were similar to the test vehicles used to develop the tunes.Either way a comment from Street Tuner ( the only active SCT advocate active on the forum) with respect to the problems outlined above would be welcomed by all the SCT customers I'm sure Steve

Posted 29/01/05 01:39 PM Posted 29/01/05 01:39 PM I think Adam is correct. Heat will have a great effect on the T's performance. The standard intercooler will have massive heat soak after one power run @10psi. Any further runs will be affected by this heat. On a cooler day on the open road this might be less of a factor but on the dyno in the heat it will affect results alot.Geea.
