Hey guys,

I know this has been done before but I dont think anyone has done it like this! I have built a custom 2nd cold air intake and installed it tonight and it all cost me about $38.

Here is the run down! Click on pics to enlarge!

I purchased the following parts.

Bunnings;

1 x box of nuts and bolts $2

1 x 90mm drain pipe adaptor from plumming section (galvenised tin)

Ford Spare Parts;

1 x BA intake tube, which comes with 2 clamps (Part # "BA 9B697 A") $33

Here are all the parts, note that I sprayed the drain pipe adaptor and drilled some holes in it.

I then cut a hole in the lower part of the airbox and drilled some holes to hold the drain pipe adaptor.

I then fixed the dain pipe adaptor to the air box using 4 bolts and used a bit of silicon to seal the back of it!

The BA intake pipe just goes straight onto the drain pipe adaptor and tighten it with the provided clamp.

I then put it back in the car. The intake pipe goes straight under the headlight and is bent down a bit. It was a bit tight but the intake pipe is pretty flexi which made things easy. The hardest bit was putting the front air box bolt in!

Tomorrow I should get my new snorkel and K&N filter from SVO so this will finish it off. :blush:

Hope someone finds this useful and helpful! :pinch:

NOTE: Does the same job as the XR8 CIA which is $70 alone from spare parts!

Nice Idea!!

Great Guide!!

Looks like a swedish pen*s pump I once owned,.....yeeeeah baby!

BTW for all the guys out there with two CAI's has anyone tried placing a digital thermometer in the box and blocking the one that comes in from the radiator?

to see it the internal temp dropped?

Max I doubt that my setup would drop the temp in the air box as its only sucking air in from the bumper. Its more about getting more air in there because the snorkle is way too small.

Nice write up XtRmn8 :thumbsup:

I was planning on doing this exact mod over the weekend. Previously, I had just a 65mm open hole as my 2nd CAI. After enlarging the hole, I was trying to work out how to best attatch the 90mm drain pipe adapter before I realised that the intake pipe had a lip which allowed a snug fit straight into the airbox hole. The lip makes an air tight natural seal right through to the inside of the airbox, and IMHO looks factory from the outside.

So, you can now complete this mod with just the intake pipe :spoton:

Nice work indeed.

Has me thinking why ford would mold those air boxes with all the ribs inside...???

Must play havoc with disturbing the air flow ie turbulence....

Anyone thought of die grinding the ribs smooth?

I guess it would need a standard and modded box to try on sequential dyno runs for the most accurate results.

I have to fess up that I am struggling to understand where the cold air is coming from.

On looking around my headlight assy., I cant see where the hell you would actually get a decent flow of fresh air from.

I understand its from UNDER the headlight assy??

Looking for enlightenment :)

Cheers guys!

Today I finally got my bigger snorkel and K&N panel filter from SVO and after fitting it and going for a quick spin it has made a difference! Also there is a bit more induction noise too! :spoton:
