12/06/04 12:50 PM12/06/04 12:50 PM #1 Was sent this from my brother in law........sounds so easy and perhaps worth a try.....ciao dutchieApparently we are going to hit close to $1.35 a litre by the winter.> Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,> united action. Philip Hollsworth, offered this good idea. This makes> MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain "day" campaign> that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed> at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt ourselves" by> refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it> was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up> with a plan that can really work.>> Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to> think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at .89 / .95 cents, we need to> take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace> not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we> consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the> price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not> purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.>> Here's the idea:>> For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two> biggest oil companies (which now are : BP and MOBIL). If they are not> selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If> they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.> But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of BP petrol> buyers. It's really simple to do!!>> Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain> how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to> a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 => 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)> ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of> people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! Again, all> you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at> BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to> ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could> conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't> think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can> make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message> on.>> PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 80cents a LITRE> RANGE.>> It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your> petrol at Shell, Caltex, GAS. or Gull Outlets and drive by BP and MOBIL> Stations.>
12/06/04 02:27 PM12/06/04 02:27 PM #2 Id like the opinion of an economist on this.Im not sure if its that easy to reduce the price of petrol at the bowser like that. Whatever the world price for oil is affects what we pay, the oil companies just slap on their margins and the taxes get put on there as well.Id love 85c/L...once Iraq quietens down a bit we might be in a better position. And maybe if the Chinese stopped buying cars too
12/06/04 03:12 PM12/06/04 03:12 PM #3 This has been done b4 generally an email type scamwhere lots of emails are collected. what makes this different is somebody has read this who most probably is trying to do the right thing but is notasking people to copy and paste the addresses whichis normally how these scams work. The two main companies sell to every body else so what difference would it make the wholesalers still make there money only hurt the retail station coz the wholesalers will still sell the same volume.my 2 cents
12/06/04 09:11 PM12/06/04 09:11 PM #4 That is certainally the case here in WA, one refinery, owned by BP, so they won't give a stuff.Although they (BP) did try the "We will shut down the refinery and move off shore" threat a couple of years ago, to which the people said "Good!, give them scrap price for the refinery, the government hire the blokes already running the refinery and nationalise it!" This also had the backing of the state gov't (in the media at least).Guess what?????.......BP shut up real quick! The only way you will lower fuel prices is for the international community to ban OPEC, it's a cartel for gods sake, the 'powers to be' stomped on 3M pretty quick when they tried to inflate/monopolise the price of vitamins, so what's the difference with an oil cartel monopolising the price of oil. Each oil producing country should sell at whatever price they can get, that creates competition thus bringing the price down.
