I dont get it.....

Ford marketing :ermm:

A few months ago they sent me a letter asking me to test drive a new falcon and I would get a free mag subscription for six months. But I had just bought a new falcon! I could understand this if a new model had just been released but not the same 'ol one I already have.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth I called them and arranged to test drive a GTP (and wasnt that fun :w00t2: )and got a free subscribe to Wheels but it just cost them money and achieves nothing.

Now today they have sent me a colour brochure to advertise falcon classic and SR.

Why? Do they want me to downgrade from my much dearer XRT to a falcon SR.

Anyone out there with a marketing degree who can explain to me why they are wasting millions on pointless campaigns aimed at people who already buy their product instead of just making the cars cheaper for their loyal customers :spoton:

At least they're getting their print media advertising together finally...

In the latest motor theres a nice "action" still of a Blueprint GT side by side a Shaker XY :)

I am far from being a marketing guru but I do dabble in it for work and have done a couple of uni subjects in it. You would be suprised by some of the theories that actually work.

Essentially for the campaign to be succesful they would be working on a marginal strike rate, so say that if only one in 500 customers followed through with a purchase then the campaign would be succesful. If this is target marketing what they would be attempting to tap into is your referral business - but if it is a broad campaign then your name somehow made it onto the database as a potential customer and as far as the advertising is concerned they wouldn't even know if you had already purchased a car.

The time spent in data matching to rule out existing customers isn't worth it, so everyone on the list gets bombarded with the adverts.

As for the canning the marketing and selling a cheaper product, do a search on level four of Maslow's theory.

Self-Asteem; the need/want/desire for being part of a group or being respected. They market their products as "prestige" items that you don't really need but it makes you feel better by owning one.

Didn't you get the NCO brake shudder, gearbox crunch and diff whine? Most other T owners got at least one of these...

It's like all the e-mail spam you get. Except they all seem to be in broken english and come from Hotmail or Yahoo addresses. Who in their right mind would consider buying anything off these dodgy people?

Fair enough, but I would have assumed that 'need' is met by the FPV range, as one would have to argue, dollar for dollar the XRT is much better value and only lacks the so called credibility of an FPV.
