Ok, The car now has 1500km on the clock and I am noticing some weird power issues.

When accelorating at about 1/3 throttle the car seems to hessitate then go then hessitate. It feels like the traction control is going on but the light is not shining. If I turn the TC off it does not see to happen. This is on a dry road doing about 60km/h, so I know I am not braking traction.

I have also felt the car is down on power. It feels like the car is only running 2psi of boost as the blowoff valve is less noisy, I cannot hear the normal flutter. The has happened several times over the past few days and happens for the whole journy. It feels like driving a n/a as there is no real push from the boost.

I can find no pattern to the problems it usually happens when its warm.

I think it is 2 different issues here.

I think the hessitaion may be caused by faulty ABS sensors making the TC kick in, but the boost thing is not good.

Anyone heard of these problems b4 ?

Thanks

Take it to the dealer and get them to check that all the hoses are connected properly. It sounds like a loose hose. Get them to check the cpu for fault codes too, the problem mey show up there.

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, plug it back in, then take the car out and give it a good flogging !

By that I mean give it a few (4 or 5) really good power runs, winding it out to (almost) redline through 1st. (You want to make sure that you hit most power/load points in the engine map.)

Where are you buying your fuel ? What sort ? How often do you get stuck in 60km/h "city" traffic ?

Some PCM's seems to be very sensitive to fuel quality (and driving conditions ?) and will detune the car at the first opportunity...

Disconnecting the battery wipes the KAM (keep alive memory), the self adjusting component of the PCM, this stuff can easily take a few degrees out of your ignition and will result in the sort of issue you have noticed.

What Geea & Twinxrs said!

You may not need to disconnect the battery, just unplug the plug-in leads to the ECU. Doesn't need to be fully disconnected either!

Not sure, but I think disconnecting the battery means ya gotta reset the clock & radio presets, & you loose your average readings in the trip computer.

Thanks guys, I will give the ecu a reset and if that does not work I ll be off to Ford as I bought a T not a N/a

The fuel is bought from the same place, so I think it is ecu or TC related.

I will let you know.

Be very careful unplugging the PCM as the connector pins are really easy to bend. You cant see what you are doing (cause they are upside down) and if you do bend them, they are nearly impossible to straighten without breaking off.

Just remove the negativer post on the battery, same result! Resets the KAM!

As Geea said, sounds like a vacuum leak.

Check all vacuum line fittings, especially around your boost gauge tap, and blow off valve.

I drove all the way from Townsville to Sydney, thinking "gee, feels sluggish. Meh, must be all the gear/weight I've got in the back"

Get to Sydney, check hoses. Boost gauge tap hose perished with great big cracks in it. New bit of hose, WHOOOSH, back to normal.

Thought I would try some more testing today as I had some long uphills that I could boot it from a standing start. Previously I have either had SWMBO in the car or I have been in traffic, so the testing was limited  .

Using WOT I feel the car accelarating in 3 stages. from idle to 3000 then 4000 then 5000, its almost like switching the car from low, med, high settings, but very noticable steps in power. If I had to make a educated guess I would say its the variable timing, but I did not think it was so on/off in the T. We also have a Toyota Kluger with a 3.2 VVTI engine and it delivered the power in a very linear fashion unlike my T.

I have driven and owned many different turbo cars and I am an Exmechanic so I have a reasonable idea on how a turbo car feels and the problem is not the boost kicking in.

The above problem is not related to the low power feeling, since resetting the ECU this morning it has not happened since, but it was intermittent before, so I can only hope.

I have been driving around with the TC off and have noticed that the car is not hessitating like it was before. My wife thinks it is my lead foot causing the TC to kick in, but I do not agree unless this car can break traction at 60kmh in the dry with TC on yet if I drive the same way with it off, it has no traction problems.

I think there is a problem with the TC, but this is only minor in my mind as I am spending most of the time with it off. :ermm:

Can anyone tell me if the power should be smooth or if it does step up as the rpm rises ? Am I parinoid and looking for porblems :k24t:

If your power doesn't step up with more revs your in trouble

Get your dealer to check it out
