  1. Everyone is starting to talk about the cost of the chip, the tranny, the warranty, the insurance ....... additional costs were already mentioned at the start of this thread - the point being made was even after these costs (and the tranny is a maybe) the XRT would still work out to be cheaper than a GT but with better perfomance. Anyone putting in one of these chips would have to realize that they haven't been fully tested in normal conditions - you run the risk of problems and additional costs. The question here is: Is it worth all of the risks for the performance you will get?? After all, if it was cheap and risk free we would all be doing it!!! I have read the mag and it sounds like the way to go for me - but I will still wait a few months to hear some feedback off those people that are willing to jump in and be the 'guinea cops' (referring to you BLKXRT) :D
  2. This may sound weird, but I kind of like the feeling of the other person taking off and thinking they have it in the bag because they get off the mark quicker ....... unfortunatlely they see me flying past seconds later and can't go with me (most times!!) :D Is it more important for the car to perform better at the bottom end?? Or is it more important where you are placed after 400m?? Personal opinions will answer that one - I like to be in front with a higher speed!! Like the idea of the chip ... don't like the idea of a new tranny - may be more cost effective than simply buying a faster car, but no good if you don't have a spare $8000 - $10,000 laying around ... :( Who am I kidding ..... I would still take the risk!!!
  3. Ken - you should just go down there and demand some answers or tell them you will go elsewhere. When my partner ordered his Mustang, they fed him crap week after week. In the end he went down there and demanded to see the car or he was walking from the deal there and then. The car (which was supposed to be in Melbourne) was around the corner at a panel beater having a door realigned (or some bull$hit like that). They will feed you crap for as long as you will take it - just make it clear you ain't taking it any longer. Demand answers and make sure you get something out of this - we scored an FPV racing jacket, cap, great deals on paint protection and alarm - that kind of stuff. Also worth noting that after the truth was out and everyone was calm, they stopped feeding us bull$hit and made an effort to look after us. We did get our 2 XRT's and a Cougar (my sister) through this same dealer AFTER the tang experience. The deals and freebies got better as we went and the service from the salesman was very attentive. Just let them have it and see how they react - if they make a special effort to look after you now, they will probably do it again later. I know how you feel - it frustrated us no end to get the continual run around. Stay calm and go and get some answers!!!!!
  4. Sounds interesting Chris. Do you know how it goes with the paint protection? (If it removes dirt and grime so easily, can it effect the p/prot)......?????
  5. Gonna throw you guys a curve ball here ....... I love the song from the Falcon ad .... but .... I also like the song of the latest Expensive Daewoo ads - along with the kid 'cornering' in his pram!! Can't wait to see if Ford does it again with another song next time around - bring it on!! And thanks for the name of the song - now I've just gotta find it!!
  6. Thanks Brendan - Macca's it is!! Look forward to seeing you all there.
  7. Count me in on this one!!
  8. Hmmm .... it may be a bit cold for just the bells ..... !!!!! :D bdennis - are we 'definite' for the Maccas or KFC at Fountain Gate??? (I think Mondie suggested the KFC as the best East spot from the last thread due to parking/fuel - or did someone who knows the area well confirm which is best??) I can't wait!!! Let's all start praying the weather is good
  9. Will be at Fountain Gate with bells on!! :auto:

    One More Sleep!

Far Out!!! There is always something isn't there!!!!! $1500 is a good deal for the sat. nav. - enjoy it and look at it this way .... it happened so you could get an added feature for a bargain price!! It's all good from here on in!! Enjoy.
  11. I have seen a couple of BA taxi's and heaps of BA XT cop cars - a few sedans but mostly vans!! If you had to go for a ride in the back of one, you wouldn't want it any other way would you??!!
  12. Congrats Mondie!! I agree with you on the stripes - they look great!! As for colour - it's pretty good that you and your wife both agree on a colour!! Go the citric acid and both be happy!! May ... June .... July .... AUGUST ..... :D :D
  13. I am not sooooo against it - it's just not for me!!! Last time for the record: I love the look of the bulge but think on a xr6 it is try hard - you know, if you like the V8 go and buy one type of thing. Doesn't mean a million other people can't like it!! While I would love to explain my opinion all day ..... I need to get back to work!! ........ As for mods - oh yeah!! Will start with a chip and go from there. :D
  14. IMTRBO - this thread actually reminded me of yours where you asked for peoples opinions on your number plate. When you ask a question you have to be prepared for answers/opinions both positive and negative!! Would you have liked it if we all said it was great but thought it was $hit??? No way!! It's good that we all don't agree - c'mon guys .. no one should take it personally!! :D IMTRBO - PS: Are you going to have your beast in time for the Melb. cruise on the 25th??
  15. I think we ARE saying it's your own choice to modify your car - but the specific question was asked about peoples opinions on this particular modification ...... and it is being answered ..... no one is calling anyone a dic#head .... just responding to the question!! Seems to me all would be ok if we all (sorry around 70% of us) just said 'yeah, that would look great!' instead of responding with 'our opinion' ... as you say .... each to their own - doesn't that count for opinions as well??
  16. Making your car look like a V8 won't make it look slow to anyone on the roads!! If you want to surprise people to the power of the Turbo, then just take the badges off your car (before someone else does anyway).
  17. Now come on - you are twisting words - the bulge represents a V8 is the point ..... and you can add Mustang Cobra to your list (to be precise!) And we are not that sensitive about it - just giving you the advice you asked for!! At the end of the day you can do what you like and we won't tell you you're a dic*head - most of us would actually like to see a picture of what you've done!! Me thinks you are the one who is sensitive about it .......... :D :D
  18. You are right - the xr8 bonnet does have some exclusivity to it - TO THE XR8!! As for someone being confused between an XR6 Turbo bonnet and a taxi bonnet ...... I am glad you are laughing because that is a big joke  If you don't like the look of the bonnet, that is cool - modify it with some scoops or something - give YOUR car some 'exclusivity' to it - don't try and make it into something it is not. People will see the bulge and assume it is a V8 - why would you want that?? That is the 'wank' aspect of it - not the fact that you are modifying it. My vote goes towards 'BIG TOSS'
  19. Ken - be sure to let us all know when you are coming down and we'll see if a few of us can catch up with you somewhere for a cruise!!

    Big Decision

    - No test drive necessary .... surely enough of us have let you know how FANTASTIC it is!!! - Why not try an auto for a change (the manual shifter on the auto does the job) especially if you plan to do city driving ... let's you sit back and relax too (speaking from owning both manual and auto cars) - 17's look ok and are cheaper to replace the tyres. 18's no doubt look better but you are right - after market could be a cheaper option (if you can wait ..... ) - Premium sound - get it if you love your sound - I have it but will probably modify it slightly to get more out of it. I haven't heard the standard sound system so I can't comment on that one. Bonus of the larger colour screen with the premium sound also!! Some other must haves: Tint, paint protection, alarm, XR scuff plates (because they are a bargain) and a sunroof if you can afford (wish I had one!!!) Order it NOW and have it waiting for when you arrive!!! And post some pics once you get it!!!
  21. cdm - it has finally arrived!! Are you gonna come on the cruise with us on the 25th ..... ??? - check out the thread!

    New Features

Gotta love those ricies - leaving them behind always brings a smile to my face!!! More seriously, there is one thing that bothers me a little with the car. The 'hidden' aerial doesn't seem to have the same range as those externally mounted. I guess I notice this more living in the mountains. My EL Fairmont used to pick up the radio stations better. Not a big deal but - I can just flick on the CD player!!
  23. Well Ken - where should I start???!!! Didn't head up the major freeways, opted for the smaller highways (same speed limit - less cars). Handled like a dream (and we drove through both wet and dry conditions). Stopped for a petrol and leg stretch break in Seymour - got quite a few looks from the locals driving past as we filled the tank!!! When we got stuck behind the odd slow car (and there were a few Holdens!!) simply knocked the shifter over and got the turbo into action!!! Soon discovered we needed less and less room to overtake!!! Maximum out of a tank = around 500kms (I would guess there was around 30km max left in the tank). No overheating problems. Only thing we found is that once we slowed down to stop/start driving, the car seemed to have a slight problem when idling at the lights??? Felt like it was going to cut out a couple of times (another one to add to the list for next service!). Got a lot of looks at the car (and the number plate). Was an absolute pleasure to drive - smooth and fast!! Looking for the next excuse for a long drive!! So where's your first drive planned for...???

    What Options

I must have misunderstood - sounded to me that you thought those modifications (as well as creating a BEAST!) might assist with picking up chicks ............ :D

    New Xr6t Today

I went to insert a disc and figured it out for myself when it wouldn't go in!! Man, how hard did you push it?? Lucky you didn't break the CD!!! Don't worry about it - get it fixed and enjoy your car - at least you know for next time!! Good move switching from Expensive Daewoo to Ford
