Xcal is a proprietary device so we can't support that. Any J2534 cable should be good to go though m

The fake tactrix cables blow up after a week so I definitely don't recommend them. If you are on a budget the VCX Nano on ebay is about $120 AUD, it flashes at about half the speed of all the other cables however it seems to work fine. Only problem is the USB plug itself is prone to breaking. Tactrix seems to be the best middle point cost and quality wise. Most of the tuners who use them bought one for Subaru tuning 5-10 years ago with them still going strong today.
-
Tactrix is the cheapest, a real VCM2 is over $1k the ones you see on ebay are all chinese clones with pirated software. Personally I like the tactrix and the mongoose, the mongoose is easily double the price though, so not as good value.

The workshop version is designed for workshops who do a lot of tuning. However to give back to the community we have offered to to a few DIYers as well. There is no requirement to buy any more credits if you only ever want to tune your car, there is no subscription or ongoing payments.
-
The workshops are the ones that will really see the most out of our software as we keep bringing out new features. So if you ever decide to go back to "stock" hit us up and we can give you a list of workshops that can do the custom operating systems. We are doing a big update on our website to list them all off in the next week or so. Currently we have about 35 workshops across Australia and NZ you can use. Even the big names like Nizpro etc have jumped on board. The unofficial (may change in the future) pricing for the custom operating system (will include flex when it is finished) along with boost by gear and other items is 5 credits, so $250 to license it. We feel this is pretty good value compared to full aftermarket which I doubt you will see change from $2.5k before you even pay a tuner. Though obviously if you have a full race car there are some definite upsides to going full aftermarket, it is just whether you would use these features on a street car. We won't stop improving the software until people genuinely tell us it is the best package on the market. Our mission statement is to support less cars but support them extremely well, this is opposed to the opposite where some companies aim to support a large number of vehicles but with massively varying levels of support. Not sure if you guys have ever seen what ecutek have done with the Nissan GTR, but they have really gone to town on the stock PCM, you can do things like increase/decrease boost using the volume switches on the steering wheel etc. Our goal is to deliver something as high end as this. The stock PCM hardware and software has huge capabilities, it just needs the R&D from us to get it to a level where it is comparable/better than aftermarket.

Link will be active until the 30th so anyone sitting on the fence still now is a good time!

Technically we can change the axis of any table to basically anything else. The ultimate plan is to have all of this selectable via the UI. Flex fuel which we are deciding how it will be done will involve the addition of several tables as well. Exciting times!

Haltech Falcon plug & play discussing thread
rollex replied to FiftyOne's topic in Engine Management & Fuel Systems
Yes they definitely want it and it can be done, I just think they haven't had any customers push them to get it done so it is just in limbo until someone pushes the go button. I suspect they are still very busy trying to get the ZF integration working better along with getting their other Falcon products out. The only thing holding us back was how to license the TCM. Currently we offer it for free when you tune a PCM. So we just need to add some detection around the Haltech ECU, or offer a completely standalone product that can do 1x ZF TCM. Most of the Haltech premium dealers are already PCMTEC customers so they are simply using the workshop package to tune the ZF in those cases. It is only the DIY guys that would be interested in a ZF standalone PCMTEC Editor. Anyway if anyone does want to tune the ZF with our software and doesn't want to purchase the full product contact us we can definitely sort something out at a discount. We just haven't had anyone actually directly ask for it yet so its sitting on the backburner until there is some demand. From what I can tell the overwhelming majority of Haltech customers are either manual or using a different automatic box. Regarding flex fuel on the standard PCM the idea we are floating is to use the second O2 sensor as the ethanol sensor input. It will need a frequency -> 0-5V converter as well, however they are quite cheap and readily available. -
Haltech Falcon plug & play discussing thread
rollex replied to FiftyOne's topic in Engine Management & Fuel Systems
FYI we had discussions with Haltech about offering a cut down version of our product to tune the ZF. If you buy one of these kits and want to tune the ZF we can either put you in touch with someone who can or we can look at offering a ZF only version of PCMTEC. Also for those who were curious we are definitely looking into offering flex fuel on the stock PCM. -
There is a good reason why people lock the cams, the effort to dial in the speed density maps is about 100x less. If they aren't your cams, it isn't worth the R&D effort to get the VCT working with a drivable result. As unless you are reselling those cams regularly you will never recoup your R&D costs. Though if you do spend the time to get the VCT working, there are good gains to be had. To explain the difficulty in doing it from scratch it takes 3 engineers at Ford 25 weeks to dial in their tunes.

Most of the workshops that have our software are actually in Vic (list on the website). Speak to Joe first though, I'm sure he will be able to help you out with someone interstate. The stuff that helps with the bigger cams is taming the overlap down low/at idle which you can't currently modify with other software. A lot of workshops have previously locked the cams with verniers to get acceptable performance from big cams. Personally I think that is throwing away a lot of midrange torque as the dual independent VCT makes a huge difference compared to locked cams. Though it is definitely easier to tune, especially if you have an old VCT system that isn't working correctly.

The current license cost per car is 3 credits ($150) Our initial plans are custom operating systems will cost 5 credits ($250) to license. The breakdown is 1 credit to flash read/write regardless of operating system. Edit cost is either 2 or 4 credits. If you already have licensed a car and want to upgrade to a custom OS is just the difference in credits (providing the original OSID is the same, eg a custom version of HACCK that you have already licensed would only be an additional 2 credits, if you want to move from HACCK to a custom version of HACH3 it would be an additional 4 credits). Workshop and professional will have access to custom operating systems. Anyone who has Enthusiast can upgrade to Professional or Workshop for the cost difference if they decide they want to later on. A few of our customers have already done this as they decided they wanted to tune their ZF. Currently we are doing custom operating systems manually whilst we working on automating the UI side. Eventually the UI will allow you to select which axis/DMR input you want for a table, this will give you a lot of control. We may re-evaluate the costing later once we get some more feedback and see how much work it is for us to support, though at the moment it is looking like we will be able to automate everything meaning the support side of things shouldn't increase too much for us. Once we get out of beta testing all of this we will put the official pricing on the website, however currently it is unlikely to change from the above.

As there is already software out there that does this we aren't planning on adding relink and reprogramming for module swapping due to the R&D time to implement it vs what we could charge for it. Maybe in the future however not at this stage.

Datalogging is on our roadmap, we suspect mid year release. We plan to support serial/usb and canbus widebands. Almost all models on the market support can/usb these days.

Currently our income is approaching our target. I hope by the end of the year it will be there. We are already ahead of the bell curve as most businesses don't make a profit for the first 3 years. We've only been live since November. Roughly 90 cars tuned with PCMTEC so far and growing. As Darryl said training and scoping work for third parties often takes longer than just doing it yourself. To get the quality of staff we need would be too expensive at this stage so we will continue to grind it out for a while. As Darryl said the next project in the works is the datalogger, Darryl will has already mapped pretty much everything ready to go for it, we just need to develop the ui which is by far the main job. Hoping to release it in stages. Basic csv logger, 2d graph logger, full blown logger with histograms and gauges.

Set O2 sensors to 1 and set the O2 sensor warm-up temp to 4096c or set the warm-up time to 10000 minutes. O2 will remain in open loop if you do that.
-
What tuning software do you have access to? We are adding vid block editor which can change the speed source but it won't be out by the weekend. I think you need another few weeks to sort these problems properly.

We plan to add tune locking so tuners can lock a tune (similar to what SCT do) and only that tuner or other pcmtec users that they specify can unlock the tune for editing. They can also specify write only unlock so you can flash it but not edit it. We also will have support for canned tunes, so you can buy a limited license that allows you to flash tunes but not edit them. Probably be in the next few months we add these features.
-
Should be pretty easy to poll the temperature before doing a flash and avoid that issue. Will see what we can come up with!

When you say the 1st gear lurch do you mean where it takes off in 2nd gear, then kicks back into first after a 2 second delay? If so yes Darryl has found that delay and tested it out on his ZF 6 speed and it fixed it entirely. I think he nearly threw his horses out the trailer due to the delay so he is a happy camper now. As the ZF has its own computer you still need "two" tunes, one for the gearbox one for the engine, though with our next update we will have the ability to store a TCM, PCM or both TCM & PCM tune in a single TEC file. We will also have the ability to add or remove any ECM module from the file. This means if you do a full read of your car with both TCM and PCM, but you want to send only the TCM part of the tune you can use the "extract module" and build a seperate file. You can also do the reverse and import someone elses TCM tune into your TEC file. We are also adding value files like what SCT has, so you can export your "quality of life" TCM tune to a xml file, this can then be loaded in to any tune you have and it will update/override only the parameters of your choosing.
