    Brake Squeal

    Hi. My Series 1 T has standard brakes (no upgrade) and has been in for brake shudder no less than four times. Each time except the last all they did was machine the discs, which fixed the problem for a little while. Last time it went in, it had only been about 1500kms between visits they upgraded the brake pads, as well as machining the discs. This has done two things; first I now get LOTS of brake dust build up on the rims which is no biggy I just clean them more often... The second, however, is that the brakes now squeal like a B*$ch, from the dust. I wash the car and it goes away for about half a day, but by about the end of the week it sounds terrible. Has anyone else had this problem? and if so have Ford fixed it or just given the run around? I know the Phoons have grooved discs to help remove the brake dust, do the upgraded brakes on th T have the same thing? Cheers.
  2. Well its still Extremely uncomon with Shell only listing 7 places in Melb that have it... ( http://www.shell.com/static/au-en/download...ite_extreme.pdf ) Its more expensive again than Optimax 98 which is Extremely silly seeing Ethanol is cheaper than oil... (although 4 cents price difference over 50litres is still only $2 so who cares) In theory it still should make the T go better but will it be Extremely noticeable??

  5. In regards to getting the Steering wheel controls to do other things, I've been thinking about that for a week or so. Using it to change gears is a top idea, that I had not thought of... I was thinking along the lines of using those buttons to turn on "stealth" mods like xbox or even the blue bottle... but still being able to use them for factory functions as well, for those you find it too much hard wok to move their left arm the 30cm to the ICC controls... Basically a box that can hijack the steering wheel controls to turn on/off whatever you plug into it... Now that I've gotten over Xmas (almost) I'll be looking at how hard it is to tap into the controls tomorrow. How many people would be interested in a box that alows you to use your steering controls for other things? I'll have a look at the circuit for the trans and see how har dit would be to change gears by remote, so to speak Cheers
  6. I know you too well, you went and found that hole... Now you can go have the car lowered under the guise of getting the "damage" fixed and the wife will be none the wiser...
  7. Well your right about one thing... Some rally teams do use Peltier cooling, however unless they have a BAD accident the Peltier is nowhere near the intercooler. They use them to keep the drivers cool.   8. The alternators run at a fixed load, do they not? The alternator is "tuned" to put out xxxx watts at 12v across a certain rev range.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> First of all Hi all, this is my first post and I'm new to the forums but not new to electronics ;p The Alternator in your car without getting to much into it produces a fixed (regulated) voltage and a varying amount of current. That is as you turn more stuff on the current draw goes up and the alternator has to produce more power (in Watts) to cope. It does this by converting the mechanical energy from the engine into electrical energy. Easiest way to demonstrate this is find a mate who’s spent more on the stereo for his car than the car is worth. Get him to turn the thing up while the car is at idle and watch the revs load up... Long story short whatever power you draw from the alternator you lose from the engine… Having said that intercoolers and turbos’ don’t really make an engine produce more power they just make it more efficient so you can get more usable power from them ( I know that’s confusing). For instance the turbo sucks the energy out of exhaust gas that would normally be wasted and uses it to compress air, thus making the engine more efficient and you go faster… By using engine power through Peltier’s or an adapted Air Con to make the intercooler work better you MAY make it more efficient overall and get extra rwkw... Remember you can’t get out more than you put in you can just use it better…
