  1. Same questions buddy - what were the issues with the old box, what exaclty was changed and at what cost?? What sort of guranteee does the box come with - safe for 300 350RWKW???? Dingah
  2. Steady as she goes me hearties. The Transmax Z on the 4 speed caused significantly higher wear rates than the recommended TQ95 and I have resumed usng the latter; whether this applies to the ZF not too sure but I'd recommend staying with the manufacturers recommended for that reason alone. Dingah
  3. BEWARE!! Canberra Ave and Hindmarsh Drive intersection has been fitted with Red light and Speed "loop" detectors, these are a new type of red light and speed camera, they detect how much time it has taken your car to travel from point A (first sensor) to point B (second sensor) instead of using radar, therefore they are extremely accurate. They are implanted under the road surface and are completely undetectable, they are also only 300 mm in front of the white stop line at these lights, so if you over shoot the line even by less than half a car length you will be charged, even though you didn't proceed through the lights. These are also installed at the north bound intersection of Canberra Ave and Captain Cook Cres in Manuka. These will apparently replace all existing speed and red light camera's in the ACT within the next few years... Also they are in the process of installing FIXED SPEED CAMERAS on the north side of Cotter Road overpass for traffic travelling in both directions on Tuggeranong Parkway. Dingah
  4. HELLO ANYONE THERE - read my earlier post - half that price at the dealership! Dingah
  5. 0.9 with 16 psi boost. Can run smaller but nothing below 0.8 is necessary or sensible. Dingah
  6. As I recall mine was a 341 and is now a 342 and get some other fool to do it for you, the fiddling with the swirl pot, filter and potential fitting of incorrect hose material are but a few of the pitfalls that one come up against. An hour's labout should be enough if they are competent. Add $3.50 for air freshener too to overcome the fuel smell that pervades the car for the 48 hours after replacement. Dingah
  7. OPtisoot is OPtisoot - now add 5% Enthanol and pay even more to lower your fuel consumtion and blacken the arse of your car. Unless you have had a tune specifically for this fuel you are unlikely to find the couple of degrees more advance it might give you. The variance in engine builds, tolerances and ambient weather conditions will each provide far greater power differences than needlessly shelling (!) out on re-badged fuel. Great marketing exercise though! Dingah
  8. The only time you should spend waiting is the time needed to save up the money required - all the other reasons stated for waiting are entirely folk lore. Dingah
  9. Get someone to run a scantool over it to determine the fault codes. It is quite likely that it is an intermittent connection in the loom in/around the the tranny. I had exactly those symptoms and it turned out to be a loose connection to the internal S5 solenoid which is omething that Prestons would have fiddeld with when modding. Dingah

    Pic's

Welcome to the forum but please put some effort in first by using the Search function and try and avoid the general 'spray' questions; therein the responses you'll get will improve in both number and quality. Research will eventually allow you to draw the conclusion that the exhaust is probably the last thing to attend to on a list of modifications providing you stick to what really makes a difference as opposed to what looks different or sounds odd. From Croydon take a five minute drive down to Bayswater (Barry Street) and visit Simon and Dave at Nizpro, Before you visit make sure you know how much you are prepared to spend and what your goals are. 11. Not quite so and a potentially misleading generality. It depends on how you drive and how the gearbox has been set up and maintained through either Edit or a combination of internal and software means. Furthermore the ZF is far from bullet proof and relatively limited in its accessibility for modification. You need to ascertain the history of your proposed purchase far more carefully in an auto than with a manual. One that has been unmodded, not used for towing would be a good start. In some ways I would be suspicious rather than relieved if I discovered that the original owner had fitted a trans oil cooler - what were the concers and motives? I am running around 330 at the wheels with a four speed auto and there are many more who run considerably more. Generally only bad news failures and problems will get reported so for every case of failure you will read about there are likely to be tenfold more success stories you wont read about. The cost of righting a dead 4 speed varies depending upon the level of damage but falls in the range from $1500-$3000 - for a ZF it is considerably more. If I was planning to run similar power levels to what I have currently I wold willingly pay the extra and get a ZF box as I would likely also benfit from a tougher bottom end and better valve springs due to the model sereis the intro of the ZF box incorporates. 12. Have used mine in Canberra throughout and the fuel consumption really hasn't changed, initially standard, APS Phase 1 then 2 followed by CObra Stage 1 then 2 and 15s around the city with the occasional fang and mid 9s on the highway. I avoid the Boost 98 which certainly makes the consumptiom worse and the best fuel around here is Caltex Vortex 98. Both Bugester and Galcon as good honest ACT citizens with quite different tunes and VERY different driving styles both look towards the same averages too. Dingah
  13. Brilliant article and grea tphotos - hope all is now well (great colour too!) - this is the strength of this forum when infomration like this is made available to others. Dingah
  14. About $900 delivered for a set of 4 in 18s. DIngah
  15. Same folk lore that says you'll catch a cold by walking in the rain! Dingah
  16. Had a good look and drive of the 3MPS before settling on the GOlf for my wife's car. Very ricey and bling. No idea what it does in a straight line as it doesn't go in a straight line at full throttle - even with the torque limiting which is dreadful as you can feel it coming in, it torque steers like a bastard. The two cars - XR6T and 3MPS are totally different cars and do not provide a worthwhile comparison. Start with the luggage sapce or lack of it, rear leg room or lack of it, towing capacity or lack of it, comfort over harsh surfaces or lack of it....... The Golf was an easy decision and the slightly worked turbo diesel is a deceptive weapon. Dingah
  17. I had a spate of this and got a scan tool readout to determine that the S5 solenoid had gone to a dead short due loose wire inside - pan came off and five minutes later all was good. Until you get the codes you are chasing at shadows. Dingah
  18. Sounds like Tony Dominello at Dural?......... Dingah
  19. Had the same experience with my PP2s 235/40/18 were $340 and then the 245/40/18 were $420 - no thanks!.... stuck with the 235 and even with well over 300RWKW no issues. Dingah
  20. Totally agree with MS700, when your standard of tune starts to drive quirky behaviours - hard startig, poor idling, stalling, traction control re-setting, cruise control not functioning correctl..... such that you can no longer invite anyone else to longer jump in and drive it without having to brief them to beware of this, that and the other is when you have crossed the good sense and engineering boundaries in my view. Dingah
  21. Jetute do a bit of a search there are plenty of past threads on various folk's efforts at a stronger auto - a better question might be who has had their auto successfully strengthened on the first attempt and hasn't had to reurn it some weeks later for another attempt!. Dingah
  22. Considering al the money and interest in getting the biggest amound of torque and power one would think that an equivalent desire would carry through to how all of that engineering is transmitted to the road via about 20 square inches of contact. Don't cut corners on your tyre choice, don't buy enormous rims which you cannot afford to fit with half decent tyres; it doesn't make any sense as it's through those tyres that you accelerate, brake and turn. For the best combo of price and performance I'd go either PP2s or Advans. Dingah
  23. Do not use anything other than the manufacturers recommended TQ95 and make sure you avoid Tansmax Z - the wear rates are v high with that fluid. A trans oil cooler would be a good idea too. I change fluid about every 12000km - it's not that expensive and gives you an opportunity to take a look inside each time you do it. Dingah

    What Pads To Use

Anyone had experience with the new Bendix pads yet? Dingah
  25. Can you give some detail about what was done to the tranny? Toughening varies from doing very little to a range of used and non-standard parts being used - did they explain what was replaced with what and why and then to extent do they warrant their work and at what cost? Cheers, Dingah
