  1. and on the other side, what value might you place on the cleaning properties of the Vortex additive? Supposedly it will clean a dirty engine, and maintain a new one in clean condition.
  2. But isn't it always updating according to current usage? What difference does it make that you've filled the tank. The current average useage (of the last 15 minutes) calc should just continue on, adding the current reading and dropping the one from 15+ minutes ago
  3. Well, from their website, on a page titled " Vortex (Ampol Gold)" http://www.caltex.com.au/products_oil_detail.asp?id=15 "At present, Caltex offers one premium grade of Vortex that provides beneficial cleaning action for your engine. Originally developed overseas and now available in Australia, Vortex is now widely used throughout Asia, South Africa and New Zealand, and demand for Vortex is increasing. With an octane rating of 95 minimum, and in some markets 96, Vortex will satisfy the octane needs of most cars in Australia."
  4. Vortex is 95 most places, but 96 in Queensland - must be some statutory rule on fuel specs or something.

Isn't that interesting. I had a radiator replaced under warranty in MY AUII Fairmont as well. Not as bad as yours, obviously, but it did seem strange that a 2.5 year old car needed a new radiator.
  6. Right, so that answers another question I had about the distance to empty as wsell. Good info... thanks
  7. Is it a rolling average or does it take averages since the last reset? If it is a rolling average, how many previous k's does it average? If it isn't, this means that the longer you drive it, the more difficult it becomes to do anything to change the reading. Unless you reset it of course. If I was designing it, it would definitely be a rolling average over the last 100 k's or so. This would mean that whenever you checked it out, it would give you a good indicator of how you had been doing. You wouldn't have to reset it, then drive for a while to find out.

hehe.. it's a nice feeling isn't it? Mine is only about 600k old as well, and I can't stop grinning

er, did you know that Caltex and Woolies have a joint venture going? Woolworths sell Caltex fuel now as far as I know.

What about water? I remember having trouble with my old motorbike once and that was because the bowl on the carby was half full of water, and when I leant it over on a corner, it picked up a few drops too many. Gotta figure that water comes from the fuel, or maybe condensation from moist air getting into the fuel tank. Do modern fuel systems have a water trap or something like it to prevent this happening?
  11. Yep, there it is, thanks. Except mine is mostly bright aluminium coloured. Quite a big box Doesn't seem so smart for them to put it under the carper as the heat sink would worlk much better in free air. Anyway, I noticed it was made by SANYO for Ford.

Damn sorry to hear it. I bet that hurts. We had storms up here (Brisbane) as well, and I hurried home to avoid possible hail. I am just waiting for the news to see how bad it was.
  14. OIC.. thanks, it's clear now.
  15. This reads as if it had two screens, one large one with Dual Climate control and trip comp, and one also with the premium sound package. That can't be right can it? and are there 2 sizes in the colour LCD screens, one large one small? Mine looks pretty large as it is, and I only have the premium sound.
  16. Nope, no amp, just a bulge in the middle for the subwoofer. BTW, over on the drivers side under the rear parcel shelf, is a little rectangular door that is covered in the same carpet type material as everything else in the boot. Inside is a compartment - empty. I wonder what that's for? But yes, tweeters in the pillars up front.
  17. How could the colour screen be better? Higher resolution? My Premium does have a sub. Where is the amp?
  18. Now I'm confused. I ordered Premium Sound, and I got the better screen but NOT climate control
  19. I have always loved blueprint, but there are too many of them around here, so, I looked at other colours, and when I saw the green stitching and green patterned interior of this one, I quickly made my decision. I also considered Mandarin, but the green and black interior was the best.

The decibel is used to compare power differences in voltage, current, watts, sound pressure, etc. Actually, doubling the power produces a very small increase in volume. It's only a 3dB difference. In terms of phonics that's about the lowest audible increase in sound level most of us can hear. So going for a 300 watt unit over a 150 watt unit will not reap you many real rewards. The logarithmic nature of the decibel scale corresponds to the logarithmic nature of human hearing.
  21. NO. And if your going to that rule will someone quickly take a dump on his back seat.  Dazza. Ewww. no. I haven't even let the dog in yet
  22. Not ordering it with tinted glass was an oversight. I may get it done later though. Impressions so far are - WOW ! Never had a car that handles so well before. I have tended to buy Fairmonts, Fairlanes and the more luxury types, which have soft suspensions - nice ride, but poor handling. This thing just goes round corners so nicely and easily, plus that turbo makes it really kick. Not game to give it too much yet - can't really convince myself to thrash it with less than 100 km on the clock. I know, I've read the comments here about running them in, and I guess I'll by driving it normally pretty soon, but not on the first day  I agree with comments I read earlier about the auxilliary audio input. It is NOT very sensitive, and you really have to use the headphone output on the MP3 player, not the Line Out. Transmission seems tight, no clunks or shunts so far, but then, it IS an auto. Hope it stays like that. It puts out a bit more noise than I expected for a factory exhaust etc. A few revs get it growling. I suppose they are all like that. I am comparing it to the AUII Fairmont I traded though. I think I like it
  23. Isn't there a rule about not modding it until the new smell wears off  Anyway, here's a pic
