Had car in for 3000k check over, and after all the advice that I've read around here I asked for an oil and filter change. Service guy told me Ford has told them not to do it that early and to hold out to 15,000 or at the very earliest 7,500k's.... I know that leaving the oil in will help the engine bed in, but to specificlly tell the service guys not to change at 3000 check? If I've run my engine in hard I would've thought the oil change would be good...

First I've heard of it :yikes:

As you probably know the general consensus on here is to change it early then again at 7500, can't understand their reasoning behind that.

Maybe call the CRC next week and see what they say, might just be the dealer spinning crap (which is hard to believe...lmao)

I would agree with ford on this one.

The running in oil will assist with the rings seating in.

Once upon a time (in my young and dumb years) I put synthetic in a newly rebored engine (didnt even know about running in oil). The engine rings never sealed (always had excesive blowby)

Ever since I just use running in oil and leave it in for up to 10000km. It does assist with ring sealing as does loading up the engine early in its life.

Its been debated on 100s of forums as to what the best running in proceedures are. I suggest you do a search.

Yes Tab, its one of those "just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist" things

It's generally thicker mineral oil that shortens the run-in process

Yeah I understand that it's best to use mineral or semi-synthetic, but seriously what is the official Ford line on this?

My point exactly, which means I'd rather go with the general consensus, the tried and proven. Semi-synth at 3k & 7.5k then full synth thereafter.

15k for the OEM oil in a new engine just makes no sense whatsoever, even to my simple little brain! :blink:

In my mind, its gotta be horses for courses. If run in hard then 3000 oil change would be good. If its was my grandmas car being run in then yeah stretching it out further would be fine, but 15,000 is a hell of a lot of k's.

I would've thought a change for another batch of mineral or 'run in' oil during the run-in period would be a good thing, Clean oil and filter can only be good?

In my motocross bikes I change the oil as often as possible, sometimes after only 5 or 10 hours, which would only be few hundred k's. Of course this has no relevance to run in, however just the idea that the cleaner and fresher the oil the better. As it heats it breaks down, it picks up crap, so get rid of it....
