Don,t know if this topic has been done before, but imagine an XT with 290 kw,GT brakes XR front, suspension and wheels around the same price as an XR6T.Would it be feasible and would you buy it?Should it be Ford only or FPV?

If you have looked carefully the XT HAS electric windows...and l dont think it would be vesable to make pov pack just because people want it. :pics:

A V8 XT is already $40K, start adding XR fronts and other XR spares it would end up costing more than an XR8 so there's probably not a lot of purpose in it. Though I suppose you would get an extra 30kw in possibly a lighter car but that would hurt sales of the already bruised XR8 and maybe the GT as well.

I reckon a GTHO, if they ever make one, should be availalble as a pov pack or a 'stripper' (not that sort of stripper, Ken! ) but still have the climate control, Premium Sound, leather trim etc available as optional extras to those that want it.

I'm with you Falchoon, if you want to get to the top just head in the quickest direction I say, also at resale time all that extra dough spent would be gone. The car options would devalue by about 75% as soon as you drove it out the door :pics:

I think a Sprint would be a great idea.

Not everybody likes the big flashy bodykit of the GT. I think its nice but it may be a touch to 'Over the Top' for everyday life for SOME people.Plus the wolf in sheeps clothing thing would be a big attractant.

I think there should be a GS kind of option and the Sprint would be the range topper in that. Basically - Minimal Bodykit, Sports Exhaust, Dropped Suspension,Premium Brakes and 17" Alloys on XT I6 (N/A) an 8.The Sprint should come with similar bodykit plus reworked Bulge for Boss 8 but appear similar to the XT GS series other wise. (for more information on what a GS pack MAY entail, ask Plonky, he is the #1 proponent of it)

I think it would probably take sales away the XR8 but it does seem to be in a void anyway. To my upsetedness (new word ?) the XR8's position is being questioned by even Dyed in the Wool Blue Oval Fans.

At the end of the day a Ford Sprint wouldn't have the Brand name Cachet of FPV or the history and aura of the fabled GT, it would depreciate quicker but will fill a gap in fords line up. Serving people who dont want to stand out (even less than a turbo) but want good performance.

As for the fabled GT-HO...

Ford should get serious with the GT-HO. Take a leaflet out of HSV's book. Have you seen the options for the Clubby R8? It should come with a TRUE Handling Option (H.O): Adjustable Suspension (Konis, Ohlins or similar), Thicker Sway Bars, Strut Braces. The whole nine yards. Also the Aero packaged should be reworked for marked improvement in Aerodynamics. Maybe a more V8 Supercarish look? But all functional. No side scoops that lead to nowhere etc.

The drive train is a doddle, they can pinch the 6 Speed box from the Cobra R as well as it's higher ratio and stronger diff. Engine power should be similar to the jumo from say XY GT to GTHO (300 to 400HP or about 33%) which would put it up around 350KW. Which is entirely possible, look at Hypnodocs sig, that is well within reach for FoMoCo (PS:is that chipped at all Doc?).

Brakes appear adequate with the Brembo package, maybe a Larger Rear Calliper, Two Piece Rotors and more aggressive Pads though?

The interior or more pointedly the Luxary Lard is the sticking point in the GT (in particular). Out with the leather, not fixed racing bucket but maybe far grippier Recaros or similar. Drop ALL the sound deadening like they did with the Cobra R. This is a GT after all, why muffle the note (perhaps from Twin Pipes?). Thinner carpet, no underlay and just enough firewall protection to keep the cabin from getting too warm...

The only thing I can see that a GTHO may want to add is more comprehensive gagueing. Oil pressure for a start, redline on Tacho and a shift light wouldn't hurt either.

Most of these things can be sourced, quite reasonably from the Ford Parts Bin. There is no excuse for it really, no "Aston Marton Gearbox was to Techno for buyers" or "It sounded really loud while giving it heaps in 3rd gear".

This is a weekend racer that drives on the street. No a luxo barge with a huge pricetag that only echos a name but no development to the past. <breathes>

Sprint...Oh Yeah....Great Idea :nutkick:

I like Falchoon's idea for the GT HO. Have a pov HO with all the go fast bits and suspension and body kit with no extras, make it as light as possible. Then have options, you could option everything or nothing depending on your individual tastes. This could mean a base GT HO could be 100kg or more lighter than a fully optioned one.

Geea.

When you buy "performance", generally, it should be about the whole package, brakes, engine, tranny, handling, reliability and the rest, this where SV8 fell down, twas light, powerful, cheap, but could not turn or stop, and, according to some, dangerous. A pov pack, with a big turbo or v8 still needs some good gear and this will jack up the price, close to the real thing, but it will devalue a lot more, I would think, but people will buy it for sure, as many crew do want the big bang without the flashy cop bait.
