Just starting the xr6t journey and I'm doing as much fabrication work myself to help save costs along with the satisfaction of building upgrades and learning about the car.

my question is can you / do you use the factory internal fuel pump to supply an externally mounted surge tank/upgraded pump system (such as a 044) and keep the std sized fuel lines.

I know in past projects I have feed surge tanks with Holley black pumps.

thanks for any help or advice.

Most electric pumps would supply enough fuel to a surge tank as they aren't under pressure.

Something to consider is the original pump will be near the end of its life and will likely be filthy and half blocked to boot.

A common upgrade for these cars without going down the surge tank route is to install a walbro 460 with an aftermarket fuel reg.

People have made more than 500rwkw on the stock fuel lines. I'm not sure where their limit is but the info would probably be on here somewhere.

I ran a stock intank feeding a surge on a fg. Then it died and now on a 3rd intank pump because of failure unrelated to feeding the surge.

Others might chime in but I believe something in the pot needs to be modified slightly to help keep fuel pressure down throughout the whole system.

I recently changed my cradle and it bought the pressure upto 98psi before being modded to get back down to 4 bar.

Thanks gents.

iv decided to go a 460 in tank and aftermarket fuel reg. I will modify the oem rail with weld on -6 fittings in anticipation for more mods in the future.

iv just completed the battery relocation, cai and intake manifold piping so next step is fuel upgrade and valve springs.

thanks for your advice! Can the 460 pump run off the standard fuel pump wiring loom???

It can but walbro recommend you don't.

I used the fuel pump wiring at the tank to trigger a relay that has a feed directly from the battery.
